You're saying, the only reasonable options are prohibit driving for everyone since its impossible to keep people safe, or issue a maximum of one VI annually despite the precedence for 'inspections' at questionable shops and people re-installing illegal modifications after legitimate inspections, rendering vehicles dangerous once again, and allow them to continue driving that way for a year. News Flash! 9 out of 10 tens, a car that looks like G-specs, does not conform to the MVA, regardless of if whether the car has been inspected previously. So surprise, surprise, G-specs car is subject to further scrutiny than one that doesn't look illegal. If you're not joking, you're unbelievably short sighted. You better stick to mechanics, because policy isn't exactly your forte. |

I can see this going to the fight club very soon.. |

If anyone should complain, it's me! My truck doesn't even look illegal, but I need to drive over scales to ensure the weight is within the registered limit and have safety inspections performed just because it's big.... oh, and because of the precedence for overweight commercial trucks and the serious hazard they pose when not maintained.... still, the audacity! it's so unfair! You know what else is unfair? I wore a shirt that had 'legalize it' silhouetted against a pot leaf on my trip to Sumas this weekend, and I got pulled in for secondary inspection just because of it! Wtf, right? I'm writing my MLA about my rights being infringed upon as we speak. |

What I'm trying to say is.......Cops shouldnt be giving out VI's when they dont have the automotive experience or training to understand how a car works aside from the key, the go pedal and the whoa pedal. Thats what the CVSE should be used for as they are (or should be) trained to do so. Cops wasting their and our time doing so is a waste of resources for all of us. The rest of my post are just rebutting pointless redundancy. Basically I feel the onus is on the owner and operator of the vehicle. If they are requested to have their vehicle inspected to make sure it conforms with safety standards in place then do so. If they have to modify their current setup to pass and then disregard safety measures and return it to its pre pass state then the responsibility lies with them in the event of a failure. The fact is every type of car out there has had a failure of some sort resulting in the damage of property or person and you cant catch them all. So having ill equipped people just using there uneducated guesses at which ones are prone to failure is just a waste. |
The return of the annual safety inspections would solve all these problems. The requirement was dropped a long time back for what reason????? and now you only get stopped if your vehicle either attracts attention or crashes due to mechanical problems/mods. |

If a cop doesn't know a carburetor from a hubcap, he obviously isn't qualified to do the inspection himself... that's why he has the ability to issue a VI. Would you prefer an unknowledgeable cop do a full roadside inspection himself? Quote:

Can't have it both ways. Or neither way, as the case may be. |

^in his defence, you were a bit unclear lol |

I think the one thing to really look at here, is why should a VI cost him 1xx.00 bucks, that he was forced to go to, when he passes it. Thats real bullshit. |

As for the last 2 VI's, G's rear wheels are 12 1/2 inches wide with 285 rubber. From looking at it from the rear, the wheels look like they stick out quite a bit. I've seen it and yes it does look like it will rub. Just from looking at his side shots that he posted, I would question how much suspension travel his car has in it's current state. It's his choice to modify his car to this level where it's on the edge and there are a few things where people can say is/isn't legal. History has shown us there are many inspection facilities that can/has passed vehicles that did not meet the MVA requirements, it's understanding how some officers will issue another VI even though the car shows a recent VI decal. |
^ yea true, after this latest experience I've completely reversed my thought process in order to not be naive anymore about this subject. I know and expect a 100% now to receive negative attention no matter who or what I am as a person, it's about the image I portray that's what it boils down too unfortunately. aside from vehicle specific issues, the other thing that's just funny to me at this point the thought process that must go through some officer's head when they see ME driving as opposed to my gf who has been pulled over only once (at a roadblock for no front license plate) since I got the car in 2007. I mean in their eyes they look at me and immediately all sorts of negative stereotypes jump through their head, but when they walk up to my window there is a 9 out of 10 chance that I'm doing something work or family related. The only other thing I do in my own personal time is play basketball, so I'm always in either dirty work clothes or my basketball outfit. As for updates, my car is currently in the shop and has been for weeks now, I am sky training to work every day now, my current project is a 20 minute walk from the Metrotown skytrain station. I have to work a few less hours a week lately because of this situation, as there are a few work specific issues I have to deal with now that I don't have access to my vehicle. I'm over the personal profiling aspect of it all as it's very low on my concern list as I'm not some kid anymore without a life, I have work bills and a life to pay for, so that's the part that frustrates me the most. That some officers opinion is literally affecting my life in almost literally every single aspect, all negatively. Even then I have nothing personal against them, as my opinion in the whole matter is they're a collective, like the Borg for you Trekkies. I see it as if they're trained and it's embedded in their heads to see things that way, so I've learned not to take it personal like I used too when I was younger. |
That's probably the most adult response I've heard from you so far. Kudos to realizing that shit probably won't change unless you do, and taking it personally will gain you nothing. As for profiling, I've never been a "victim" per se, so I'm not entirely sure if you're just looking for an excuse or if it's legitimately happening...but giving you the benefit of the doubt, there's really not much you can do about that either lol. Unless you're going to get a makeover... If this entire fiasco is impacting all aspects of your life so negatively, then you should also understand it all starts with your car. If you drove a beige camry none of this would EVER happen, regardless of who you are. As you said, it's the combination of you (no offence meant at all) and the car you drive, that is drawing so much heat, and making your life frustrating. And since you can't change you, you're going to have to change the car...or put up with it. Or let your girlfriend drive you everywhere in your car. Dunno man, I applaud you for sticking to your guns, but if I were getting hassled so much, that it's costing me my personal time and money, and affecting other aspects of my life, i'd just raise the damn car and get smaller wheels. |
