honestly sounds like you really just need to play around with an android phone for a day or so. for me personally, i've always been with android. so much customization, i may not know how to maximize my experience, but i'm definitely enjoying what i can do.

only downside is the battery life isn't as strong as an iphone's battery, and the app support is more diverse for ios

What does no LTE only 4G mean? You with Telus/Bell? 4G meaning hspa+?
Basically only the screen time on time matters. The standby uses up very little battery. So technically you can use 30 mins of screen at 6 in the morning, don't touch it till 10 at night and then use 2.5 hours, you will have 18.5 hours of battery usage.
But 3 hours screen is already quite good. I only get 17 hours with 2.5 hours of screen. Lasts me through the whole day so I don't complain.

iPhone: if you own other i products, more fun apps, device integration (ex: clocks, car)
S3: bigger screen, customizations, more functional apps

iOS layout is very simple. When I take my friend's android phone there's a lot to take in. Does this get better with use or is it always going to be slightly harder than ios to find what you're looking for?

Lol.

My friends pick up my S3 and always go, how do you use this?
Define "harder to use"? Are buttons harder to press? Is the touch screen less sensitivity? Does the browser not have zoom functions?

Simply put, if your'e stupid, go with iphone 5.
If you're stupid but eager to learn, go android.

Here are three differences with android vs iphone

1) There is a home screen in between your lock screen and your apps. This is for you to add widgets, like clocks and calendars.

2) If didn't come out of the box where the app drawer is the first thing you see, and all organized where factory installed apps are on the first page and the rest you installed will be on the second. (I don't think google designed android expected people would be too dumb to figure it out).

3) WIDGETS makes your life simpler than an iphone can. Instantly get facebook, twitter, instagram updates by refresh widgets instead of opening the actual apps, get weather updates, instantly view your agenda. Capable of using live wallpapers. The list goes on and on.

Androids are phones you customize to your own comfort. Don't expect anyone to pick up your phone and instantly know your features. But an android smart person will instantly know the basics like call, message, look for apps.

Iphones are for people who just want a phone straight out of the box to use. As more apps are installed, it'll become as complicated to look for it as the android.

As for battery issues, customize your android exactly like the iphone 5, where you don't use widgets, delete all the bloatware apps that roger/bell/telus install and your home screen is just rows and columns of icons. You'll have as good of a battery life as iphone. There are androids with defective battery just like there are iphones with defective battery.

I know you are asking about the hardware and not really the operating system.

If you do not find the iOS lacking then iPhone 5 is a good buy. The spec might not be quad core and having 2GB ram like many top tier Androids phones are heading but iOS6 is heavily optimized to work on the iPhone 5, thus the iPhone 5 doesn't need more than what it already have to achieve the speed that people look for. It will be a good upgrade to your iPhone 4

For S3, there are many features like NFC, video continuous play on other screen etc.. The phone is feature packed and it certainly have many useful and innovative features that the current iPhone 5 do not have. It comes down to how often will you be using those features? if you can't live without it and use it often then S3 for sure.

There are pros and cons for both operating system and it comes down to personal preference. I use both Android and iOS daily and to be honest both phones do exactly what I want it to do while sometimes Android does it better and in some cases iOS does it better. Can't go wrong going either one as long as it does what you want your phone to do.

As for customization, I personally don't have the time to customize it every other day or weeks or even months. Customization for me happens when I first get the phone and I hardly use any widget because I don't want messages, twitter, emails widget for everyone to see or glance at when I go through the different pages.

What exactly do you look for in a phone?

At the end of the day they are just phones and buying certain ones do not make one more superior than others and certainly not stupid.

willystyle 09-27-2012 11:15 AM

It seems like your content and satisfied with iOS, so I think you should stick with that.

flip a coin, and say head or tails for which ever phone and for that second the coin is in the air you will know which one you want.

my friend told me bell gonna have a promotion starting tomorrow,
If you port in your number, after 6 weeks you'll get credit 25$ a month credit to your acc for 10months
And at future shop you get the s3 for $0

Thinking about porting over and get their 50$ plan
Sell the s3 cause I already have one, use the money to pay the cancelation fee at fido

not sure if my experiences would be of help, but i have the s3, which is my first android device, and am very happy with it.

i've also used ios 5 through my ipod touch. functionality-wise, ios on ipod touch or iphone should be more or less the same.

for me, i found ios lacking in terms of customizability. having the number of apps you can have in a folder was a real downer for me. sure, jailbreak will fix it, but android has it stock. no need to wait for a new jailbreak each time you update your ios version. being able to customize what i can put on my main screen with widgets and apps i frequently use also makes android a better choice for me. sure, android may have had stability problems in earlier versions, but ICS and JB have had no major stability/performance issues from what i have heard.

when i first got s3, there wasn't much of a learning curve for me. the only learning curve i had was getting used to a phone with a touchscreen keyboard. maybe because i adapt to new user interfaces quickly, but i don't think it even takes much effort to learn how to use android over ios.

blakgtp 09-27-2012 05:24 PM

if you mod your car the torque app for android is great. but like everyone else said, it's really a personal preference.

I have a S3, so I'm biased, but here's a review from a pretty reputable site:

WTF at Ios they said bad things about it and good things about android and said they loved it
verdict 4.3 android 3.7

mos_skeeto 09-28-2012 02:42 PM

I went iPhone > Droid > back to iPhone. I got rid of my Android device for the following frustrations. Many of these do not impact the Galaxy because I didn't get a flagship phone or a clean rom phone.

- The Rogers version of the device never got ICS even tho the same phone in Europe had it. I checked the software upgrade every few days and it made me sad
- Rooting wasn't the easiest thing to do. Afterwards I still couldn't upgrade to ICS (yes I did my research, xda-developers.com, ect.)
- I didn't like the stock messaging app so I got Handcent. When I was playing games and I got a text in quick reply the game would reboot from the beginning everytime. I didn't have enough ram and it shuts off my game in the background. I didn't have this problem with my old 3GS. So trying to play a game on the way home on the skytrain and getting texts from my girlfriend every minute drove me insane.
- Kept making typos with the default android keyboard. Got swype. Was impressed how fast it was but didn't work well for non-dictionary words. Ended up with Swiftkey which wasn't bad but I liked the iPhone (and Windows Phone) keyboards way more.
- Phone crashed overnight, alarm didn't ring, I was late for work. Yes I should have a backup/clock radio but never had this issue with iPhone.
- While Android has more free apps iPhone had better quality games
- Home screen lag, general lag, apps crash more often and less gracefully

Ok done ranting. Both phones are nice. I find the Galaxy a little big but it might be good for ya. Pick the one you like more :D

Iphone gets 4.3 on features lol. Mind you, they don't have a calculator, weather, or stock market app installed.

Feature wise, I think it should be lower than a 3.7 that s3 got on ui and controls.

Wanton0 09-29-2012 12:21 AM

To be honest, they are both great phones except for the Apple Maps fail. Apple will fix that soon if not later.

If I was you, I would try the S3 and I mean give it a serious try for a year at least. Then if you still don't like it, move on to something else like Windows Phone 8 or Blackberry and give that a good try. That way have a general experience with whatever is out there. You will know exactly what you like and want at that point.

I made the switch from iOS to Android last year. I'm liking Android so far but will make a switch to Windows Phone 8 when the new Lumias come out.

out of the box. iphone does

after modding and customizing, it's debatable.

Ludepower 09-29-2012 11:49 AM

I bought the iPhone 5...And I might consider finally moving on. Just hate how it's their way or the highway.

I hate itunes..I want to play all formats of music and video...download and save them.
I wanna use my 32gb as an actual hardrive like a USB stick

Would u guys say the Samsung is a PC while apple is just being apple?

vafanculo 09-29-2012 12:11 PM

I'd pick the s3.. Mainly because I've got a 3gs and its kinda sad how the iphone 5 and 3gs are not that different.

Doesn't make sense to spend x amount just to upgrade a few hardware features.

One thing though, is that apple phones are pretty sturdy and unless you tinker with them, you probably won't have any software issues. With androids, much like your PC, they will begin to get slow, choppy, and like mentioned above, missed alarms, error messages, etc

an example of one that is NOT: "does this make my butt look fat?"

it is a subtle attempt at re-affirmation of physical beauty, and not a geniune question.

the correct answer of course is "no, dear." unless the person asking is black, in which case the answer would be "Hells, yeah!"
