| Geunine question: iphone5 or Samsung Galaxy S3?
While I am worried about incoming fails, I am genuinely debating between the two phones.
Yes, I know how to use Google, but all I can find is spec comparisons with blatant bias towards one phone or the other.
Cost difference is irrelevant.
I currently have an iphone 4. Never owned Android.
From an everyday using standpoint, which would you recommend and why?
Any other phone worth waiting for? Will probably like to switch before Decemberish.

no offense dude there's gotta be millions of iphone vs galaxy debate online
if you are thinking 2 months down the road as mentioned wait for the next nexus phone to be announced
pure android OS with fast updates...easy customization (which really is a big point for going with android)

If you're used to iOS, ip5 will be a smooth transition. Minus the Apple maps part. Android is a totally different feel. I suggest hitting up a Future Shop or something and play with both phones.
But for the record, I would get the S3, hands down.

It's so simple. If you like the iPhone 4, get the iPhone 5. It's the iPhone 4 better in every way.
If you don't like the iPhone 4, then get the S3.

I know there are debates online, but most of them are 50 pages, with 2 threads worth of actual information and 48 of flaming and bashing.
All your answers make sense, but as someone who's never used an android phone, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to expect.
For example, I'm not terribly happy with my iphone4's battery life. Will it be worse with the iphone5? The SG3 has external battery, this sort of thing.

Has anyone found the android interface a bit overwhelming?
iOS layout is very simple. When I take my friend's android phone there's a lot to take in. Does this get better with use or is it always going to be slightly harder than ios to find what you're looking for?

I had an S2 at one point but I sold it the next day
But I'm looking to get an S3 or Note II some time in the future.

Once you get used to it, it'll be brushing your teeth.

^ you can always add shortcut to your desktop. It's all about customization. People like me only have 3 pages
Main: Weather, stocks, email, whatsapp
Left: Misc Appz (newspaper, games, remote appz)
Right: PDA (calendar, calculator, maps, flashlight appz)
iOS people can put appz in folders, but it doesn't really make finding things more convenience

Question I'd ask myself is -- how important is the bigger screen to you?
I switched from an iPhone 3GS to a Galaxy Nexus, and I'd have to say the single biggest thing that I appreciate the most is the huge screen. Obviously, the iPhone 5 has a bigger screen as well, but it is only longer, and most things don't really look bigger in that longer screen. With the even bigger screen on the S3, you're really gonna appreciate the extra screen size if that's your thing.
For me, the OS transition was only awkward for the first day or so. ICS/JB really works so well that it feels no different than iOS after some very short adjustment time.

its all about customization.
everyone who has an iphone is almost dot to dot matching.
learning curve isnt that hard, I took an hour out of my time and taught my gf the basics and she figures out the things herself

Go and play with the demo phone. iPhone 5 is gonna be pretty much te same experience (minus native google maps) as you Iphone 4 but faster. Oh and Siri too.
Android if u have never use it is gonna be completely different and also a lot more powerful and customizable.
Comes down too whether you are te kind of person that like tweak with their phone.
Are you happy with your iPhone 4? Did you ever jailbreak it? Have you ran Into anything u want to do on the iPhone but couldn't due to constrain in the os?
If your answer is no to the first and yes to the rest maybe give android a try Posted via RS Mobile |

Seems like a lot of you are liking android...
Is there anything negative that stands out specifically? Are number of apps now similar more or less?

I did jailbreak it. I never found it limiting, but have found some annoyances associated with the iphone, such as the use of itunes, apple ids, lack of customization etc.
But I've also grown accustomed to it, and don't necessarily mind it...hence this thread lol.

For the most part I think most iOS apps are in the Android Market. If not there are similar apps to the one you are looking for. However, there are some developers that stood strong and only allowed it to be used on iOS.
For Androids you can further customize it by installing launchers or rooting your phone and flashing ROMs to another OS. But you are getting an S3, I would not see the need for that.

There is really no point in getting 5 right now. Most of the apps are not even full screen. Most of them have the black bars top and bottom.

app development isn't as strong on android as much as ios. The reason being, is when a developer makes a app for ios, they're trying to make sure most of apple's phones will be compatible. If a developer is trying to make an app for android, they're trying to reach about 780 phones in compatibility. Thats extremely overwhelming lol
no hate, I have an s3. Love me

iPhone 5 battery life can't be as bad as S3. For example my s3 is at 13 hrs with 3hr of screen time no LTE only 4G. Although custom roms will prob help.
Forgot to add I was at 5% at the time.

I'd get an iPhone 5 if I were you. You seem content with your iP4, and the latest iP5 builds upon that.
But if you don't care, it's pretty much an iOS vs Android debate since both phones are pretty much the king of their respective operating system. Keep in mind apps and customization as well. If apps is a concern, I'd go for the iPhone. If customization is your thing, Android hands down.
