| Ways to unlock iPhone 5.... anyone?
I'm leaving for vacation this December and I want my iPhone 5 to be unlock.
I wonder if the phone is currently unlockable or a gevey sim will work on it?

3 ways to have an unlocked iPhone 5 right now
1) Buy from Apple website
2) If you signed a contract for it then you have to either buy your contract out or wait until it's done and then pay 50 dollars to the carrier for unlocking
3) If you paid full price on a carrier locked one then you just have to pay the carrier to get it unlocked

if you are with telus they'll unlock it for you after 90days of signing up for $50. bell will follow suit. rogers and fido.. u have to pay buy out the phone +$50

also give me $1800 port-in credit.

That doesn't help you with your current situation. Telus will never unlock your iphone 5 from another carrier. You'd be best checking if your current provider will unlock for you for a fee.

I know that.... thats why I'll port all my numbers to Telus. Then use the phone for 3 months then unlock it. As a matter of fact they offer me $1800 credits for 4 lines with a good plan. I will sell all my iPhone 4s to pay off the cancellation fee of Rogers
I just need a confirmation if actually someone tried it with Telus - use the phone for 3 months then unlock it.

Not sure about if Japanese carriers will do this... Before my road trip I just called FIDO and had them unlock it for me.

I looked into unlocking, and it looks like you can't unlock a Softbank phone unless it's an iphone 4 or older. And then it's $200 anyway. If someone CAN unlock a 5, it will probably be about the same. In that case it makes more sense to just buy a Nexus 4 or something.
Will look into a GEYVEY, never heard of it. Edit: Nope, iphone 4 only, and would probably stop working after ios7 anyway

I used this to unlock my iphone 5. You give the your imei and carrier. Cost me 40 dollars, to unlock a telus iphone 5. When you get an email saying its complete, you plug it into itunes and it completes the unlock.
Just took a look and there is no Japan in the list.
