This kinda shows what it does, but it's much cooler seeing it in person. It is so detailed you can go up close and see the CF weave, drilled rotors and everything from all angles:

What happens if you only print half the car on the sheet of paper??

It would not work.

The piece of paper act as a marker and platform for the AR to show up. So it can be anything from a simple QR code to something what McLaren has done.

Since McLaren is doing this as marketing, they have made the marker to show the outline of the McLaren P1.

There are other more complicated AR that allows user interaction and manipulation but the one in this is the most basic form that uses camera to track the market movement. Still hella cool that McLaren has done this

The real work is done by the app which displays the 3d model. The paper just helps orient the direction which the model should turn.
