My family live in Gibsons/Langdale/Roberts Creek so I've been going out there since I was a kid, that house does not "fit" in with any of the type of houses you'd normally see on the coast.
Curious who the original owner/builder was.

one thing i learned over time is that older generations that immigrated here and had to learn english... guess who they learned from... the locals... so back then they probably used all the non-PC terms for groups and it was acceptable... he just stuck in time with the local terms used back then. sounds like a great neighbour to have and very generous.
We had italian neighbours, they never used any slurs on us at least. we loved them, miss them dearly

I think that's exactly what it is. They picked up the language from other locals who used it openly back then, without realizing the harm it inflicts. For sure their adult children were always apologetic about it and tried to tell their dad that using racial slurs is not acceptable, and you could tell they were embarrassed by it. Regardless, they were some of the best neighbours we ever had. I can't say the same about our Chinese neighbours.
