Agreed that homelessness, real estate crisis, and general unaffordability is up everywhere in Western societies (US, Canada, Europe and Australia). Why is it so fucked and where else is there to go LOL?
What about other places? A comparison to the rest of North America makes sense but is such a low bar. Shoot for higher. Another example of Canadian helplessness - oh police response times have been mostly the same (bad) as 1995, there's no need to improve (eyeroll).
Hell the small town of Horseshoe Bay has a HUGE uptick in bums. Which is shocking cause it's cold as shit there - breezy by the water.
Used to be a solid date spot, nice and safe, now you get crackheads screaming and chasing each other down the street - true story.
This was kind of my reaction walking in the supposed red light district / homeless area of Osaka. It's not as bad as Vancouver, so I didn't notice them. But other Japanese locals wouldn't dare to go there. Kinda shows how fucked Vancouver is imo. | I dunno how to even respond to this -- all I read is " blah blah Asia better, la"

The last time I looked into gini coefficient was in undergrad and found that the gini coefficient isn't an apples to apples comparison because each country calculates it a bit differently.
Also I think HK doesn't account for individualized income in their calc, only household in aggregate. So a 10-person household earning $400k HKD is considered very high income compared to a 1-person household earning $200k HKD.
As an extreme example, the UAE's gini coefficient says there is low income inequality (better than Canada) which is very sus.
