I'm in the middle of refinancing and 3.79 looks like the best rate across banks right now, at least that's what I've been offered. RBC has a promo though, they'll hook you up with 55k Avion points which you can use towards a flight and a tiered cash bonus.

if you're going to korea fly korean air, its really good these days. i havent been in like 20 years but my dad goes every year and he wont fly there with any other airline.

My butt hurt 1hr into the flight when I went from YVR-HKG in Sept. Even HK Express/Jetstar was better than AC.

Non-profit doesn't allow for prem. econ even if it's 50% covered by Feds lol

Within Canada, acceptable. Long haul, it's rough... the service is so bad.

My spoiled 9 year old flew AC Vancouver-Montreal-Rome in premium economy, then when he was 10 flew ANA to Tokyo in economy. He said ANA's economy felt like AC's premium economy! :lol

I think premium economy is sufficient if you can afford it, but it's wasted on people that don't need the extra space and don't eat the food. Business class is beyond my price range!

AstulzerRZD 02-26-2026 11:13 AM

SFO ICN's your best bet, you're on a new A350 with WiFi.
LAX ICN has some nice A380 and 747 where you can ride upper deck economy, but neither has wifi.
You could fly 77W on AC to HND/NRT, on Cathay through HKG, or on China Airlines/EVA through TPE.
Through Japan, all the Japanese airlines are running 787s with the super narrow economy class

=== in order:

My pref is

1) A359/K - you'll get the higher humidity and lower cabin altitude from composite body and the wide seat.
2) A388 or 748 if you can get upper cabin economy.
3) 77W for wider seat
4) 789 in last place because of narrow seats, except for JL sky wider which is really a PY product but still uncomfy because it's really hard.

I am curious about what is bad about AC's service. I've flown a variety of airlines for personal and business throughout my lifetime, so I'm asking objectively and out of curiosity.

The worst for customer service for me is WestJet. I hope they fail and go bankrupt.

Poor choice to take a massive detour instead of direct for an economy flight doesnt matter if its an asian airline or better service or food whatever. Id rather pay out of my own pocket and buy a better seat than detour.

crappy food, service (they disappear for a long time plus general unfriendliness) and for some reason, they seem to bump into my shoulder while I'm sitting on the aisle seat 98% of the time when they are walking past me. Like legit it seems to be on purpose

Other airlines flight attendants do much better job of walking by without incident. Heck, even I can walk around without bumping into people and I'm usually bigger than the average flight attendant.

Ditto on WJ though. They've definitely gone downhill compared to when I first flew with them. I now prefer to fly AC over WJ.

Eff-1 02-26-2026 11:22 AM

Is it just me or are the people saying business class is so worth it, are people who have clearly established themselves as especially wealthy.

Of course, something is worth it when you can EASILY AFFORD IT

It's like telling a Mazda driver GAIZ YOU SHOULD BUY THAT FERRARI LIKE ME, IT'S SO WORTH IT

AstulzerRZD 02-26-2026 11:24 AM

Nah I love a great economy seat as much as I love JL first class.
You'll also catch me on Ryanair/Easyjet because they're always on time.

Just spend the extra ticket price on sitting near ur friends / massage / hotel when u get there.

I mean, food is subjective. If you are comparing to other airlines, AC can always be easily beat. I think the attendant unavailability is really just based on service standards. If you need them, you can just press a button. And yes, they can be brash when walking up and down the aisles, but this can be true of any airline. I make a mindful attempt to ensure I'm sitting in such a way that avoids being bumped. If it happens, it happens. I'm not defending AC, but of the years I've flown with them, I've never experienced anything that's out of this world bad. Not enough to dislike them.

At the end of the day, I have low standards and I like paying AC to treat me like trash. :D

yray 02-26-2026 11:44 AM

last time I went to hk, I asked myself why I didn't upgrade to prem econ. for 13 hours

fuck sitting beside some chinese country bumpkin

noclue 02-26-2026 11:46 AM

If Air Canada and the western airlines can fire flight attendants after they turn 30, not provide pensions and other benefits, pay ground crew $8-10 a hour, in the case of middle eastern airlines get heavily subsidized jet fuel from the state, yeah they can have great seats and food in the latest shiny jets.

bcrdukes 02-26-2026 11:46 AM

lol sitting beside country bumpkins are the worst no matter which airline.

Which airline was this? :D

bcrdukes 02-26-2026 11:49 AM

Ok, at risk of sounding like and being perceived as a racist, I'll share this story (we're super off topic right now.)

I recall back in 2018 when I was in Pune waiting to board a flight to Bangalore, the gate agent offered business class for $200. My VP ran right up to the counter and shouted at me and another director, "Guys, jump on this RIGHT NOW. Look at the people around you!"

We paid the upgrade fee out of pocket, and reflecting back on the experience, he was right. But felt so bad about it.

unit 02-26-2026 12:08 PM

Lol ok why was the “look at the people around you” part necessary at all tho

68style 02-26-2026 12:14 PM

My last flight from Calgary to Vancouver was an absolute gauntlet of breathing only through my mouth and as little as possible thanks to the tfw buddy guys around me, good lord it was vomit inducing.

Browsing houses on the west side of Vancouver and I'm a bit surprised at the "value" on that side compared to East Van or Burnaby.

Here's a 16 year old 4200sf house on a 5400sf lot in Kerrisdale for $3.8m:

https://www.rew.ca/properties/6467-l...t-vancouver-bc

https://assets-listings.rew.ca/listi...ib=react-9.7.0

In contrast here's a 4600sf Burnaby house for $3.6m on a 7200sf lot that's way out near SFU:

https://www.rew.ca/properties/6902-k...eet-burnaby-bc

https://assets-listings.rew.ca/listi...570&dpr=2&q=50

This is a pretty common looking house in Burnaby - lots of stuff at that price point that's relatively new - and I'd much rather live in Kerrisdale for that kind of money.

Badhobz 02-26-2026 12:37 PM

What a steal !!! 3.8 mil why not buy 2

Fucking Vancouver

BIC_BAWS 02-26-2026 12:51 PM

For on-topic discussion, my last refinance was with Scotiabank in 2023. 5.89% fixed.

After looking it over with a few people, I can save the org some money and do two layovers in HKG for $400 less than direct, with the added side benefit that I'll get to see my aging grandparents for about 20hrs each. It's a bit cursed, but I think I just have to suck it up and maximize the opportunities I get with them.

JDMDreams 02-26-2026 02:21 PM

AC food is so bad. Refinance is cheaper rate cuz they consider you as new client to win business vs refinance is existing customer. Heloc as much as you can before prices crash more, milk it while you still can, get cash ready for market crash buying opportunities.
