anyone know cheapest place to get tempered glass to add shelves for the ikea detolf?

68style 05-05-2020 08:07 PM

I had glass shelves made to very specific specifications at this place in Richmond a number of years ago and they were very good to deal with:

In case people are still looking for these, I saw them at Tsawwassen Mills Walmart yesterday, tucked around the back corner from the hot wheels aisle facing the washroom.

Ballpark price if anyone made shelves for the Detolf?

I was lucky to find one used that was broken, so I salvaged the internal shelves. However, looking to make another unit now.

twitchyzero 06-10-2020 06:33 PM

2mm thicker but I was quoted $15 per shelf from another place (didn’t follow up yet)

Haven't purchased a 1/18th scale in a loooong time but Solido just came out with this 964 Carerra and I just had to have it. Detail is pretty good for a sub $90 CDN 1/18th. Next to it is the $30 hotworks techart 996 from like 12+ years ago

I don't how many of you are aware, but the passing of a influential Hot Wheels designer was announced over the weekend. Ryu Asada passed away at 42, after fighting cancer for almost five years. I'm sure many of us have collected models designed by him, since he brought about the influx of hit Japanese models to the brand, along with other real-world cars. I can give him credit (and Jun Imai) for making me collect Hot Wheels again, as an adult.

He was a hardcore Honda fan, so the EF, Integra, S2000, City, FK8, NA1 NSX were among his contributions. The P1, 934 and Bentley above were also his designs.

More details on his work here:

Ryu's designs are a good part of why I got back into Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Lamley came out with a video highlighting some of Ryu's designs and it's clear he loved what he did for Mattel and the car community through the two brands.

I'm looking for some larger diecasts for my son to play with as he's been trying very hard to wreck my Lego Bugatti.

I went to Toysrus and Superstore and neither has anything larger than 1/64 hotwheels. A friend suggested that I go to the car specialty stores(I haven't had time to go yet) but that sounds expensive.

Does anyone know where I can get some cheapie 1/18 diecasts like Miastos or Burango? Shit that I played with when I was a kid.

Nothing at Walmart? They usually have stuff like that.
