Legal racing on the streets? Sounds awesome to have here?

About the SORC | Sandhills Open Road Challenge | Arnold, Nebraska

looks like a pretty fun event. We need an event like this here. A place like pemberton would be good.
-From what I have found is the place is a small middle of no where place, that only has a population of around 600.
-The closest thing we have to this is knox. but with knox there are minimum safety equipment requirement. This event will put a driver and their car in a class base on what they got and experience.
-Burnout contest on public roads is awesome.
So any ideas of how to bring this here?

Were you watching Hotrod TV today?

ts14 10-15-2012 09:07 PM

Haha just saw this on hotrod tv

IMO , itwould be crazy to have an event like that in the summer but no one is gonna do shit until drivers smarten up and stop getting their cars impounded regularly

dared3vil0 10-15-2012 09:45 PM

Something along the lines of a Silver State Classic would be awesome. Perhaps like a $200 entrance fee to cover all the costs of running the event... I'd be there for sure.

If there were more residents that gave less fucks about noise, (and if they were profitable), we'd have a track per city by now.

In the land of the "environmentally conscious"? Gonna be a cold day in hell when that happens.

no kidding, tool hippie mayor keeps giving us bike lanes

Gridlock 10-16-2012 01:54 PM

The day before they open the truck highway, I could really go for a race from delta port to the Port Mann on brand new asphalt, in an elevated highway.

Glove 10-16-2012 02:03 PM

never, ever going to happen.

They consider 2 cars going side by side 10km/h over the speed limit street racing,

our hippie and anti street racing politicians wouldnt allow anything close to this coming to vancouver.

Too many hipsters with too many opinions about everything here.

Yes i did watch it last night, and it made me think of a post a while ago, they did legal drag races on the streets way back in the day in the okanagans.

snails 10-16-2012 03:19 PM

the more accessible places to have fun with a car means less people will be doing it on the streets, or at least in congested areas

i know alot of people that regularly go to mission and surprisingly enough they seem to be the least likely to be driving like tools on the street cuz they just save it for the road course or friday street legals.

i would love for the road course to be more affordable personally, and my car isnt fast enough to have real fun at the 1/4 mile :( so more options would be great

Vancouver is very anti-car culture I think

If you ever get a chance to attend the SSCC,I highly recommend it.You will be blown away by the cars there and how many people from around the world come to compete in this event.

I went in the 90s and I got to meet John schneider(aka Bo Duke)from The Dukes of Hazzard,he was there competing with the General lee.

firebird79_00 10-16-2012 06:12 PM

Never gonna happen here, it would interfere with all the bike lanes

some_punk 10-16-2012 09:56 PM

if knox was able to do it, how hard can it be to get it here? They closed roads during the olympics, couldnt they do it again?

I don't think they'd allow something like racing in Vancouver...I mean, when the Indy track was still open, there was already enough complaining from downtown residents, now they don't race indy here anymore and the track's "gone" now :okay:

I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time. For those 10 seconds or less, I'm free.

Is it just me, or is 99N from the US border to just before the Massey Tunnel essentially devoid of cops? I have never once seen a police cruiser on that stretch of highway, EVER. Doesn't matter what time it is or what day it is, I never see any cops. Could it be because there aren't any shoulders to pull people over? Just a guess

Cars be blasting by at 140/150 on a daily basis.

I've seen a cruiser on occasion sitting just past the highway 17 overpass.

Cars be blasting by at much faster than that on a daily basis.

Yeah I thought the same thing,... All it takes is one cop, and a radar detector not picking him up, and he appeared to be having a particularly bad night, and you have a massive clusterfuck on your hands. Was not fun. :fuuuuu::ifyouknow:

achiam 10-17-2012 08:14 AM

An island off England, they also race with rally cars etc. The POV cam is insane.

Gridlock 10-17-2012 08:32 AM

Years ago, I went to a car show in the states with my father and his car and the entire city got behind the event. They had a public burnout event in a tunnel entrance. The police were directing an alcohol fueled willys drag car through city streets to where it was happening. A car, with no insurance, and no plates. It was fun to see.

Every once in awhile, its fun to break the rules.
