What are the consequences of the frequency of these earthquakes?
Is it beneficial to alleviate pressure from plates? Or could this be seen as a sign for a more significant quake to hit?

You'd have to ask a geologist, and it really depends on how things are slipping and the faults and all that jazz.
If earthquakes worry you, though, you might want to move a few thousand kilometres away tho.

I just hope if we have a big one that it doesn't happen at night since I sleep naked hahahaaha

Like Graeme S says, whether once quake bodes "good" or "bad" for us really depends. Where two plates press together, they build pressure until the pressure overcomes the friction and lets go... when you have several different plates involved, it's possible that the release in one place could cause enough movement of a plate to allow another fault to let go. It could also cause another fault to jam up tighter, so it doesn't let go as soon, but builds up more pressure before it does.
All in all, there are just too many variables to tell how one quake will affect another fault, and how.

I was working saturday the 27th at YVR doing my rental car transportation job, and I actually did feel this.
I just got in the car and just started it up yet and I felt like the car was swaying side to side a little bit. I barely felt it, but it lasted probably 10 seconds and went away. I thought something was up with the car, no idea what, just something lol. Had no idea it was an earthquake.
Now that I know it's an earthquake I experienced that's awesome. It was a very cool feeling actually, the feeling of swaying ever so slightly while remaining perfectly still. Now I know if I ever feel that stronger, to get the fuck outta there because the YVR is no place to be when a tsunami comes. |
