Fresh Paint Bubbling?!?!

OK so I was spraying down my car today after yesterdays epic fireworks and debris landing on my car

I noticed my front bumper had bubbles on certain areas, tiny bubbles that made the paint rough. Its a freshly refinished/ painted bumper, It was done a few months ago March/ April? don't remember exactly.

here's the pics

WTF is it?!?! I've never seen this on any of my other cars that's been painted by the same body shop , does the whole bumper need to be redone again??

Might be related but i spray painted my bike this summer, did not do a proper prepping job (Sanding+degreasing+whatever) and the result came out to be like yours except in bigger bubbles.

Had to take it to a friends shop to get sand blasted then re-painted.

Was it an icbc approved bodyshop? did you make a claim or private? Either way most bodyshops will back there work with a lifetime warranty. Yes the whole bumper will need to be re sprayed.

Yes icbc approved shop, with an icbc claim. I guess il have to contact the shop, anyone know why this happened? I've never seen this happen with any of my repairs done by this shop.

Which shop did it? My guess is poor prep.

The paint is reacting to something. Just bring it back to the shop that painted it, they should honour the work.

I had a similar issue that occurred about a year to a year and a half after I had my vehicle repainted. Mine was not as bubbly as yours, it was just three small bubbles on the front bumper and it was only visible in the right light. I brought it back to the shop and they redid the front bumper. All covered under warranty so I did not have to pay a dime.

I never found out or asked why this happens. I believe its most likely due to the fact that the one small area was not prepped as well as the rest.

I suggest you bring the vehicle back to the shop that you were dealing with, show them the issue and they should redo it immediately. You'll get your car back within 3 days max. Most likely much much sooner.

Yea, I'm sending the car back to the shop this week, Ive already sent them the pics and they said its something to do with the shop who refinished the bumper, cuz the whole bumper was sent out to be refinished before it was brought back to the shop for paint.

That's a lot of bubbles. Are you sure you just never noticed them?

If not then its the prep. Something a lot of people underestimate the importance of.

Your paint is only ever as good as your prep.

(I'm a painter and i tell the preppers that because they never give a shit and think it doesnt matter when I spray)

^^ I've clayed, waxed a few times this summer and I've never seen it before, I've notice that the bubbles come and go though, there seems to be more in areas where water can sit. and in areas that dry off the bubbles will get smaller after water dries off.

so I think its something underneath reacting with water, since it was pretty dry all summer, didn't really start to rain much till the end of Oct.

Did you wait at least 3 months before waxing over new paint..? You have to let the paint breathe for that long before waxing it
