Speaker buzz/cracking on rainy days?

Don't know if this is normal or just to my coincidence but every time it is raining my speaker becomes muffled/buzzy/crackly. Its a stock rear deck 6x9.

I did some googling and some people are saying wires could be exposed to water or the paper cones might become damp and cause that.

Its super weird cause in sunny hot weather i can blast the music however loudly and its sounds normal.

Would a simple speaker replacement fix this? This has only started happening this past year or so but earlier on only the right rear speaker did this, time passes by and both speakers do this in the rain now.

Im starting to believe that its cause the speakers are getting old (14-15 years ) but then again why do they work in the hot sunny days?

Any insight from all the audio pros out there?

14-15 years, time to replace them! they've served a good life. Re-wiring them will be a good idea if you have any doubts on the wiring integrity

Any suggestions on new speakers? The stock speakers were actually pretty good on bass. Almost sounded like i had a sub

Dont want to spend too much though, already posted a WTB in the buy/sell but worried on how long used speakers will last.

What kind of car is it? If its a typical late 90's Japanese car then 14-15 years is well past their due date. As you said, the old paper cones have a finite life...but even worse, the foam surrounds tend to get wet, dry out and crumble away. If you get any new speaker, chances are it'll have rubber surrounds which will last way longer than foam, and their poly cones (which most new speakers have) will take a beating forever! New speakers start at about $100 a pair for something decent. I would suggest visiting a Revscene sponsor and have a listen to their stuff.

Not a japanese car, its a 98 Plymouth

Yea gonna look into getting some new speakers. I did some searching and do speakers need to be the same ohm level or something?
