The issue isn't about finding replacements in time for you to teach...There are plenty of qualified teachers that will be able to fill in the spot if the situation became that drastic and ended up needing new staff.

Again, depending on what school you go to, thus far....it's just T.A.'s that have caused this disruption. Most professors are going forth business as usual.

My source was legit, official and primary. It's not a vague Vancouver Sun article that usually has facts skewed or improperly portrayed.

My instructor told us if the limited strike ends up rotating to our building that we will have to redo our level, we only have a week left and if we don't get our marks in we have to restart the whole level and still have to pay again and the next intake for my trade and level is March 2014 so ill have to wait 2 years for something i could be finished with in 2 months

Im in B.Eng Electrical Engineering and most, if not all, of my instructors were making at least 2x or 3x their current pay when they were working in the industry.

One of my instructors said that teaching (now that hes a little older) is something he WANTS to do. He can easily go back to working in the industry and make much more money. Teaching is less stressful and something he enjoys.

"Why the hell would I go on strike for 2% if I gave up my previous job to do something I like?"

So with that. This strike (if it happens) is pointless and the students are the one that suffers. Its not like they will omit course material. Which means less time to study the same amount of material for us students.

Im fucked if this happens.

you would think that courses grades will be based on your midterm and assignments thus far if they were to tie up the rest of the semester

If this happens why not get everyone who is affected go into a class action lawsuit against the staff who went on strike or BCIT? I will piss if I have to pay again for something I already paid for and have to wait another 2years.

oh man one of my buddies is gonna be doing his apprenticeship program at BCIT in the new year. If he cant go cuz they are on stike he will be pissed

If he has to wait another 2 months to go to school that is $1500 a month that he is losing (gets a raise once he finishes school)

what's the likelihood of everything getting pushed back a year? I mean, if this I can't even think that something like this could happen at UBC in any program for that matter...thinking about all the nursing, engineer, technician programs getting pushed a year (?) back is just crazy...they have to really do something about this? If you're doing a 2 year program and you are just about to start i'd seriously reconsider..

Only if you go to the Coquitlam campus. Classes and everything are still a go at the New West campus.
