Most dangerous places to park your car in Vancouver

Not sure whether to post this in VAC or VOT

Global BC | Most dangerous places to park your car in Vancouver

Quote:

Car thefts and vehicle break-ins are decreasing in this province, but according to the Vancouver Police Department there are still some locations in the city were thieves are just hoping you'll make a mistake.

The most dangerous place to leave your car is in the parking lot outside the Aquarium in Stanley Park.

VPD say -- in the last year and a half -- there were 111 thefts at that location.

The Pacific Center parkade is the second most dangerous spot to park, with 100 break-ins happening there.

There were 82 thefts at 400 Seymour, another major parkade in the downtown core.

Fourth worst with 69 thefts is 100 Keefer in Chinatown.

The rest of the list:

5. 63 at 1100 West Hastings
6. 62 at 1000 Burrard Street
7. 59 at 500 Richards
8. 53 at 1600 Bayshore
9. 53 at 100 Cordova St

Police say the best way to prevent this kind of crime is to not leave anything in your vehicle.

well that's kind of retarded. think of how many cars use those parking lots. They're high traffic areas....no doubt there will be more instances of getting ur car broken in there.

i wonder if this was done by the VPD or by global. I know VPD releases these kinds of stats but to call them the most dangerous is just silly

It also doesn't tell me the time of the break in.
ie: PC parking lot is 24 hours and it's pretty quiet after 10pm there unless there is some event going on in downtown.

EvoFire 11-10-2012 04:14 PM

And that's just Vancouver proper, nothing from Burnaby or Richmond.

Though I am surprised that PC makes it so high on the list.

walk away from your car with your steering wheel, and your seat like a boss!

they will still break in for the change in your cupholder.

I heard that back in the day before Baitcars, Metro used to have a car stolen about once a day.

Santofu 11-10-2012 05:14 PM

my bad lol

For a real stat, you'd have to cross section against the number of cars parking at that location, to get a number of thefts/cars parked ratio. But its nice to know that your car will get raped at the aquarium.

Hondaracer 11-10-2012 06:23 PM

I almost got run over by Luongo in PC center parkade in his G wagon lol, dangerous

Ronin 11-10-2012 06:45 PM

My car got broken into on Keefer. :okay:

4444 11-10-2012 07:34 PM

My car got broken into in my underground, they took nothing (loads of damage though)

Here's a top tip, leave all ur consoles and areas open with nothing anywhere, even consider leaving ur car unlocked - cars come with immobilizes these days and the majority (if not all) break ins are for shit in ur car to sell for drugs, not to steal the car

Also p, if ur car is unlocked, clearly u have nothing to hide (I hope this simple, simple logic works with retard thieves)

nns 11-10-2012 07:43 PM

Leaving your car unlocked isn't a good idea. A bunch of old, homeless guys could get in there and have an orgy. You know what they call that? It's called a "soup kitchen".

SkinnyPupp 11-10-2012 08:07 PM

I would add the street I lived on in Richmond... Pretty much everyone who parked there car at my place over night had it broken into. My car was broken into within 1 week of moving there. My neighbour's car got broken into just about every month or so. If you stay up at night, you would see the thieves cruising around in a van.. So fucked up. :fulloffuck:

BrRsn 11-10-2012 10:16 PM

i never understand people who drive a sedan yet leave expensive stuff in their back seat. Most cars have a lock on the inside of the car that locks the interior trunk release + rear seats from folding down. Bam, impregnable (kind of) fortress for all your stuff!

Harvey Specter 11-11-2012 03:06 AM

Sort of surprised to see the PC parkade on the list, I do see a lot of security patrols on their bikes when I park for work and I've never had issues parking there but it is a fairly large parkade so I guess it's a prefect target for thieves.
