i have a hard time belieiving that video footage from a dash cam of you rear ending somone that cuts into your lane would put the fault on them..

in the end, you were close enough that you could not stop

What the fuck? If someone cuts into your lane with no room, resulting in you hitting them, of course they would be found at fault. My mind is going to explode trying to comprehend your logic behind that. If I'm going along and someone cuts into my lane inches from my bumper and then hits the brakes its my fault for following him too closely? I wouldn't have technically even been following them so how would i need to keep a distance?

2-3 second safety distance is only cars in your lane. Otherwise it's just simply 1 meter.

You can't predict when some ass shat will sudden merge into your space going 10 kph when are you cruising down at speed limit...the worst is when they don't signal :rukidding: just have to learn to drive more defensively (ie going through a intersection with limited vision with caution...be prepared to slam your brakes in the middle lane when the outer lane has a line of cars behind a left turner

I'll share my experience.
Not exactly the same though.
I was the one that got rear ended.
During rush hour, car in the HOV lane cuts into my lane without signaling to go around the bus that was stopping. He then slammed on the brakes.
Luckily I was BARELY able to stop but I got rear ended.
Told ICBC what happened and they said if I could find the plate of the car that cut me off, they could split it 50/50 between that car and the one that hit me.

Not quite the same as what OP is asking, but if you rear end someone as a result of them getting cut off, you have the chance to split it 50/50.
The car in front would have to have remembered the plate of the car in front or have a dash cam.

If someone on a different lane turns into your lane and you end up hitting them in the side of their car, I don't see how it could possibly be your fault. Also, if someone cuts you off hard and you rear end them, "you should've kept your distance" isn't valid because you're not required to keep a distance to cars on different lanes...

What needs to be said has been said already, but god are there some retards who either don't read or shouldn't be giving advice.

If you HIT them, then yes, it's always your fault. However, if they back up into you, you better have a witness. Happened to me twice, won once with witnesses, and the second one is still pending.

The first guy that hit me said: your car is too low, i can't see you when I was reversing. Really?? A sedan can only be so low, while he also drove a sedan too. Stupid excuses.
