Based on the highest pay tier: 29.20 x 40/hours week x 52 weeks = $60,736 - where exactly are you getting the $100k+ figure?
6 figures a year for a bus driver is possible but chances are very slim. i currently work for the farebox receipt department and last time i heard that a guy got 6 figures, he got in shit because he broke a shit ton of labour laws.
OT for bus drivers are nuts. after 7.5 to 8.5 or 9 hours is 1.5x pay. after another x amount of hours is 2x pay and after y amount is triple pay. beginning of service starts at 4am and last service is probably around 3am. so if a driver really wants OT and is allowed, big bucks are raked in. not to mention sunday work are premiums. you automatically get 1.5x pay or 2x, i forget which. and if you work OT, you get that premium on top of it.
farecheckers make a lot of money, but they are not limited to only doing that duty. i'm assuming you are talking about the actual translink security that does the check and not the skytrain attendants. both are different positions and have different pay.
IIRC professional drivers are given a maximum they are allowed to drive within certain time periods--professional and personal vehicles. I think the daily maximum is 10 hours; so if a guy drives a bus for 10 hours a day, he's legally not allowed to get behind the wheel of even his own car.
I could be wrong, but I think that's the way it goes. So things like daily overtime would probably not be that common.

The maximum is: 13 hours driving, and 14 hours on duty daily; 70 hours on duty in 7 days, or 120 hours on duty in 14 days.
I've never worked for Translink, I can't say with any degree of certainty that 20 hours of overtime weekly is possible but it seems very unlikely. From 2007-2011, Translink reduced overtime hours 29% (as per the audit).

I really don't think it's fair for you to speculate on a persons aspirations, their desire to improve themselves and what they do for their community/world simply because they drive a bus for a living. There are great people out there in all types of jobs and class levels, just because someone is a bus driver doesnt mean they are a lazy, uninspired person who doesn't do anything to help others and better society..who knows what these people do when they clock out for the day.

i don't know where you get the idea that under educated people are bus drivers. there are a lot of bus drivers that i have spoken to that actually has bachelors from universities.

Who's to say that privatization wouldn't lead to similar wages? After all, forming labour unions technically remains legal in this country, although a private company could make threats.
What in your mind is a fair wage? $10.25/hour? $15/hour?
It's a surprise that someone in such a high tax bracket such as yourself has so little intelligence and is so apt to make broad generalizations.
Curious to know what 4444 does which allows him to be such a self-righteous "contributor" to society. I can tell you one thing though, there is no way in hell I'd put up with driving a bus in this city for 50-60k a year. I'd rather go be a mailman.
If people want to know how much public sector employees make, just look at the Vancouver Sun Public Sector Salaries database.
These are likely high seniority members, but they are just shy of 100k. Transit operators are essentially bus drivers aren't they? Check out the first two names in each picture.
And this means what, exactly? That's two guys that came close to $100k in one year - it's hardly typical of the hundreds of "operators" in the system. The pictures themselves also state, that's TOTAL remuneration, which can include severance pay (these two may have quit/retired/been fired/laid off within that year), overtime pay, unused holiday pay, bonuses...
Consider that 7 weeks' holiday pay, at $30/hr. (rounded off), amounts to $8400 right there, if the guy didn't take any vacation time.

It's not meant to mean anything. More so just posting for people to view as part of the discussion. Regardless of if it's total remuneration, that's pretty good coin.
