Opinions: Best local engine builder?

After having an engine built by a local builder who completely fucked us, I need to find someone who knows what they are doing to rebuild the engine in my dads Mustang. Looking for some recommendations please, it is a supercharged application.

SD performance in Chilliwack, They specialize in Pontiac Motors but they know theyre shit across the board.

Magnem Engine Service on Boundary, they've built a ton of engines for people racing at Mission, should be a place to consider.

+1 for Alec's, Speak to Rob. Nice to deal with.

My engine was built by Alec's. Never had any problems.

Who built it last time? What blew on it and are you sure its due to poor build and not poor parts matching or tuning?

Iceman-19 12-06-2012 01:03 PM

Speedpro in Surrey did the rebuild on it. It never ran right when we got it back, multiple times. (took it back to him numerous times and it always never was right.) We finally gave up and went elsewhere. The tune was done at Speedpro as well, but that was checked and nothing was found wrong. Just looking to start fresh, so we will be tearing the engine apart and starting from scratch with it so we know it is done correctly this time around. It was definitely build, one guy put all the new parts on it, and assembled it. Or so he claims. We will find out soon enough what the deal is.

I've had work done at Alec's too, +1

Check out CC racing at the end of Cambie (past No. 7 road) in Richmond. I had a head rebuilt there, would highly recommend.

Ahh ok. I use Scotty at Dun Right in Richmond or if you like to wait months go see Jim Richmond. Or CC I hear is good and I've had a tour of their facility its pretty nice what they got goin on there. Scotty is my number 1 go to tho.

Im pretty sure Jim Richmond did the bottom end work on the rebuild.

(Sorry to hijack this thread.)

Which motor/car if you don't mind me asking? Somewhere down the road (re: not anytime soon) I may consider rebuilding the motor in my M3 (S52B32.)

kateean2 12-06-2012 06:44 PM

Speedpro in Surrey did the rebuild on it.

If its a classic mustang (70 or older) i would recommend SD In Chilliwack, they built my step dads motor in his firebird, the thing is 800+ HP and its solid as a rock, i trust marcel to build good motors.

if its something newer than that i would recommend HPE. they do good builds.

hk20000 12-07-2012 10:08 AM

CC Racing built my AE86 -> FC3S brake caliper mount bracket out of a CNC machine. That was top notch don't know about anything else. But their collection of specialty cars are worth a visit it's a very hidden gem of Richmond.

So one guy did the bottom and and someone else did the top end? If so thats a recipe for disaster. Next your gonna tell me you supplied all the parts off ebay lol.

He farmed out the machine/bottom end work. All other parts were new.
