iMac S.M.A.R.T Status failing

My iMac has been pretty slow lately and after some research, apparently my hard drive is dying.

Some people on forums say to skip the trip to Apply and replace the hard drive myself to save some time and money. Since I'm no expert, can anyone recommend me someone to help me fix my computer? Or should I bring it in to Apple just to be safe?

TIA!!!

If it still has apple care coverage, I would just bring it in and let them deal with it.

i think one of my co-workers paid $180 to Simply Computing to get a HD replaced in a 2010 iMac. That was with a "discounted" HD.

If it is falls under this you might get a free replacement:
Apple - Support - iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program

Otherwise, try the Kerrisdale London Drugs, they have 2 Mac techs and are usually cheaper than Apple for Apple repairs.

So did they send you just a replacement drive...some imacs hd are easy to change providing you have the proper tools and 30mins even if its youree first time. I would suggest to clokne your hd no matter how long it takes. Mine took a week including a few reboots and numerous hanging...

They will do it in-store. Free of charge. Yes, you will have to haul your iMac down there. They will transfer everything over from your old HDD for you (if it is not dead) but a backup is still handy to have.

I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner, use the clone function to copy to an external HDD.

Yup as long as your serial is eligible just haul it down. Takes a few days depending on how busy they get.
