Corrupted Photos

I took a quick look through the history of the forum but couldn't find anything that would help.

Quick question: Is there a was to help fix corrupted photos that do not display?

Long explanation: Was travelling through China and I finally filled up my sd card, so I purchased a USB drive to transfer the photos. The files all transferred over to the USB drive and the first folder worked fine, subsequent folders had the files but none of the photos actually worked. When I saw the files had transferred I deleted the originals and upon returning I found the issue in the other folders. Each file is roughly 5mb (size of most of my photos) but whenever I try to open them on them I simply get the message "Photo gallery can't open this photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted".

I am missing over 100 photos from my trip and I would really love to have them back! Does anyone know of a program or a place to see if they can be recovered?

Thanks in advance!

If they're corrupted, there's nothing that can be done, unfortunately. You should pinpoint where the problem originated though. Might be your memory card? If you don't format your card often, this might happen.

I can't help with the computer side of it, but you may want to look into one of the recovery programs that are out there for the memory card itself. I have been amazed at what kind of things they can to do recover photos on cards that I have written over a couple times since the "lost" photos

I've used some recovery program to recover "deleted" images from my SD card. I tried about 4-5 until I found one that actually works (can't remember the name). I was amazed by how much I could recover...

It's my understanding that using multiple recovery programs diminish your chances of getting them back.

If they are important, try not to cheap out and go for free ones, but get an actual program...or take the card somewhere to get it done professionally.

But there is a chance that the recovered files will be corrupt as well, in which case, I'm sorry but you are out of luck.

Off-topic, 10 years ago I paid $500 to recover a 40gb hard drive...sent it somewhere in Alberta I think. Nowadays recovery is much cheaper.
