A bit off topic, but if I wanted to go to the springs just for the day, are there any things I should do prior to driving down there like calling in?

Thanks!

only if you want to stay at a hotel. i'm not sure if their spa are for hotel guests only or not, but you can always call and ask that if you intend to use their spas. other than that, its like a mini town with a beach.

Budget closer to 5.5 hours depending on the border and your gf's bladder hahaa.

True enough. I got lucky when I did my trip a couple months ago, I guess. :p

Anyone been out to Tofino in the winter? really need to know if I should bother booking a hotel out there in early jan. TIA

I haven't been to Tofino personally in the winter, but I hear it is beautiful for storm watching....the MAJOR downside? Driving on a terrible road in terrible weather. Can take up to 4 hours after you get off the ferry. So, if you are only going for a night or 2, a lot of your time is eaten up by driving.

Another suggestions is Rockwater (Sunshine Coast Accommodations and Spa at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort | British Columbia Canada). I haven't been but have heard amazing things about it! I really want to go one day.

Also, I head great things about Kingfisher Resort (Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa | Luxury Accommodations, Hotels, Vacations, Retreats, Getaways, Courtenay Comox, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada)

If you want something close, yet far enough from everything: http://www.galianoinn.com/ Its only a 50 min ferry ride.

Tofino is fucking insanely fun...

...if you go to the legion hall at night!

Its the best surfing you will find in canada, if you know what you are doing. The swells are way bigger, and are great for getting ready for some of the gnarlier stuff around the world. Its cold, wear the thickest wetsuit you can find.
