need pointers with security

so my grandpa wants to buy a remote starter for his 98 corolla LE. i told him i would install it for him. i was looking and i found this.

is there any tips or advice ppl have regarding this sort of install? this would be my second install of an alarm using OEM power locks. did the first on my EG but never installed a remote starter part.

i asked a sales rep if a remote starter would lock/unlock the oem power doors and he said yes.just want to get second opinion; is this true or do i have to buy alarm/remote starter combo?

any help or advice or opinions would be much appreciated. thanks in advance for any replies

First of all I wouldn't get that starter. You can get a Compustar for a tiny bit more and the remotes, warranty and quality will all be waaayyy better.

That said, the Compustar will have power lock outputs even on the starter system so no worries there. The car is not too difficult as long as you know what you are doing. One tiny mess-up and you may need to replace an $800 BCM if you are not using the right diagnostic and electrical tools. I'm pretty sure we can install something like that for you for under $200 complete so it may be worth your time, patience and heartache to trust it with the pros. Just sayin'!

Wiring, relays, Diode isolating, soldering, programming, knowledge of sensitive data wires and how to control them. These may not all apply to your vehicle but they are just a few reasons why we, as professionals get paid to do what we do. If you have any doubt at all, I would strongly urge you to consider getting it done at a reputable shop. The small amount of coin you pay could save you thousands in the long run.
