iphone5 vs galaxy s3 ------ opinions needed! so im in the market for a new phone, bestbuy said they would warrenty my 4s and credit me the msrp value "about 750$" so now i have the choice of the 5 or s3, always had iphone since before they were even in canada, but always liked to play with the s3 i use my phone like a laptop, browsing all day, messaging, games, pretty much its intended purpose so either will do fine, but im on the fence and im going to get one or the other in a couple hours! help me decide! lets attempt to keep fanboy comments out of this  what do you guys prefer and why! |
Iphone 5 is not much of an upgrade from the 4s. The screen is half and inch bigger and the pages load half a second faster. S3 or keep the 4s. S3 features that I like -bigger screen -downloads torrents -nfc Posted via RS Mobile |
If you use your phone extensively then try the S3. I went from iphone4 to Note 2 and I'm loving every bit of it. It's not as "polished" as the iphone, and there are inconveniences that arise as you're used to having certain things, but once you get around those (and you can) the things you can do with it are pretty wide. I especially like not having to deal with fucking itunes or having apple dictate what i can and can't do with my phone. |
I was in the same boat as you 2 months ago. My gf got an Iphone 5 right before I was about to get a new phone and that really helped me make my choice of NOT getting the Iphone 5. I didn't hate the phone but because I already had an Ipad and an Ipod Touch it felt like the same shit with nothing new and I got bored instantly. I went with the S3 and I'm so glad that I did. Not only for the reason that it's new for me but the screen is bigger, I like the freedom of doing whatever I want on the phone without having to jump through hoops like I do with Apple. Even just simple stuff like putting music on my phone. I don't know about you but I hate having to go through Itunes for everything. With the S3, just plug phone into PC, drag, drop, done. Also expandable memory was also nice. I got a 16gb S3 and added an additional 32gb for a cost of $20 for an SD Card. |
alright s3 guys, how do you compare battery, if you have used an iphone also? and what about apps? |
Battery life can be optimized on the S3. Underclock, lower brightness, task management to conserve battery, custom ROMS. Apps wise on android you can download different keyboards and such so the range is much much higher, also you can download and buy books and/or movies if you wish. One thing I didn't like about my S3 was that the keyboard is not as smart as the iPhone one. Not that it bothers me as much but thats an inconvenience sometimes because if I jumble and mumble words, the iPhone keyboard seems to detect it right away, whereas the Android one seems to have some difficulties Pretty much you ask yourself questions. Are you tech savy? If so, Android. You like moving things around and you have a static personality? If so, Android. You like things basic and a whole package wise? If so, Apple. Those are some questions you can ask yourself to make your decision. I sell phones, so those are some general questions I always ask my customers. |
I'm in the same boat. Only reason I'm not considering the iPhone 5 is because I've got an iPhone 3GS. An iPhone is an iPhone. I don't care what number follows. I'm just debating between s3 or nexus 4 Posted via RS Mobile |
:rukidding: you just made this harder! wtf is nexus 4?! ive always stuck to iphone and never bothered looking at another phone :okay: |
Swift key 3 was the deal breaker for my decision between the iphone 5 and the s3. Plus i love the fact that there's more flexibility with the android system. |
LOL, Chris.. You've basically heard almost every pros and cons for both the phones. Just quit debating, throw that 4s out, and get on the Galaxy side already! |
Never extensively used an iPhone, but the one thing that I couldn't bear sacrificing going from android to iOS was the use of widgets. |
Get iPhone 5, sell it, buy a used S3 for 350-400. Profit. |

Apps is very much the same. Itunes and Google Play both have hundreds of thousands of apps and if you've ever gone on websites you'll typically notice "Hey try our app available on Android and itunes" It's really if you're using Blackberry that you get screwed with little app support. Sure you'll find the odd app that Apple has that Android doesn't and vice versa but it's not enough to be a deal breaker because most apps are available on both platforms. Just do it man, S3 or Note II. |
Honestly, if you're coming from a 4S I would get the IP5. I went from a 4S as well and switched to an S3 and it was probably the worst decision I ever made. I find that the ios is just all around better. Had to force myself to like the s3, it's like a child that you force yourself to love... it's bearable now but I would switch back to iphone in a heart beat |

Poor battery life on that |
im on my phone... all day, i do however work at a computer so i can charge it while at work, ive always like iphone, but found over the years that they get boring quick. who has made the switch before??? |

^worst decision you ever made eh? way to dramatize things. im not an android fanboy because i feel IOS has its merits, but at the moment i believe that android is just a more thought out OS. there are just tons of times where im playing around on my 4th gen ipod touch and it just makes me realize how thoughtless IOS is. here are some really small examples, most of which are overlooked in comparisons, but there are tons of them: -when typing emails in email fields, you can hold down the period and it will come up with @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, etc... -the back and menu button -killing all apps instead of pressing the x for each -having a desktop -notification light -sharing anything has more built in functionality. try to share a picture, it'll give you about 15-20 options based on the apps you have installed on the phone. try this on the iphone, you'll find many important ones are surprisingly missing. -notification drop down has setting toggles -customizable lock screen app launcher (very convenient for camera, calling, messaging, maps) -swiping to make calls from your contact list. lets you swipe on a name to either text or call the primary number, without going into the contact page to choose which of their #s. -vibration sensitivity, haptic feedback -superior google apps (although ios has caught up a fair bit) since you havent tried IOS and android, i'd recommend doing so. i was interested in switching back to IOS (havent had an iphone since the 3g), but IOS just seems like apple already thinks they've invented something perfect and wont take many risks. google has taken tons of risks with android, some paid off some havent, but thats how the OS has evolved so much since its humble beginnings. |
If I were to go Android I would go with the Note 2 (because of its much better specs compared to the S3) or wait for one of the newer Google phones (because I hate Samsung Touchwiz interface). I have an iPhone 5 and an S3 right now. I like the iPhone 5 better because of the pure simplicity of everything which makes it more practical for me. But if you are coming from a 4S you will not be impressed. Good luck. |
Lumia 920 or if not the S3 :P |
lumina :heckno: i have about 2 hours before im a proud new owner of a ______ phone :D |
To be honest, the entire ecosystem with Apple is the most important factor with the iPhone. Everything that Apple has seamlessly works together, and many different apps integrate well with iOS. Samsung CEOs use the iPhone because of that. But if you had to ask me, you probably won't be disappointed with either. |
^^^i felt that way too about lumias but after using windows 8 i accepted WP8 a bit more and then after playing with the one i bought my dad ive grown to like it much more but i still feel a bit of that :heckno: too but give it a test you may love it it certainly runs snappier and handles better imo than the competition (thats why i wouldnt hesitate in telling ppl to give it a try) and like i said if not SGS3 :D |

ok, so im not someone who usues my iphone with anything, i rarely even sync it with my computer. it jsut has to be good for internet, reception has to be good, battery life can be compensated for, and NOT CRASH ALL THE TIME thats the reason im getting rid of my 4s |

do it in the bestbuy store when you're picking up your SGS3 :) |
