lol this is so bs.

Yodamaster 01-09-2013 11:23 PM

I'd do it

SoNaRWaVe 01-10-2013 01:01 AM

To me, it was never in our generation to be able to colonize Mars. So it was pretty neat and amazing to read that it is possible to do this in our generation. I don't know if this is bs or not, but its pretty freaking sweet to be paid for training and to go live up in Mars!

this is a troll site or a site thats making this BS up because a movie is coming out about it in the future(viral website). We havent even been to mars so how in the hell are we going to colonzie it? I can't believe you think this is actually real....

SoNaRWaVe 01-10-2013 10:50 AM

I believe it because I trust the source, mashable. Unless they are part of a huge viral marketing plan from this said movie, then I don't know. But I'm sure mankind also said it was impossible to land on the moon.

What do you need money for? You're never coming back to Earth anyways.

You can always give to whoever you want I suppose. But the site says for the duration you are on the red planet. So I wouldn't say never. Besides, you're employed. So if you get fired, I'm sure they'll eject you back to earth, one way or another.

for what? there is a reason we haven't gone back - there is no need to.

While it does seem a little far fetched, this is apparently a legit mission. Been doing some reading through various trusted sites and they all seem to repeat the following:

Mars One: Yes, Bas Lansdorp Really Does Want To Send People To Mars By 2023 - Business Insider

Personally I don't think anything will ever come of this, considering how much money they need to raise, but it's certainly a novel idea. It would be great if they could get a major corporation behind them (ie: SpaceX) or even government-funded entities like NASA, JAXA, ESA, or even CNSA.

murd0c 01-10-2013 12:42 PM

WOW thats pretty crazy, I would love to go to Mars but I will be 40 then and would jump all over it if I had a chance.

Luna is even less habitable than Mars.

NNT 01-10-2013 01:47 PM

one way trip and living in those "Mars-one base". isn't that like sending yourself to life sentence?

yeah well, it's a lot closer. you could test everything out on the moon first.

it's way closer. you could constantly send supplies to make it habitable.

i would imagine the less supplies they have to send up the better. IIRC, Luna has an atmosphere that is unhabitable when compared to Mars, but then, I guess everything is in some sort of contained dome so not sure if that is even relevant.

secondly, i would imagine a source of water would be needed. they are guessing that somewhere deep in Mars, there may be water left. but definitely at the temperatures on the surface, water simply can't exist on the surface.
