Never knew that before, I guess it's meant to mirror it's more expensive sports car, still looks dumb though.

Speed2K 03-22-2013 08:06 PM

^for the amg or for all models?

Thanks OP, AW607 for the article.

For a starting price (in the US I presume) of $30k... it is a great price-point.

At $34k in Canada? Still a great price point.

I think MB is trying to win the "unit sales" war... to topple BMW.

They need a low-price entry car (not the mini Benz B class wagon) just like what BMW did with the 1 series, and like the article mentioned, to woo younger buyers.

These younger buyers, in turn, would hopefully fall in love with the brand and buy more MBs as they grow older and more affluent.

This sounds like a great plan.

They borrowed heavily from the CLS class which is at least 3 times more expensive. I would cringe if I had a CLS, when the CLA comes along. Maybe, the CLS sales were so low, that MB didn't mind borrowing own styling queues from the CLS.

In any case, the CLA's styling looks like a winner. Or... maybe it is just the red colour?

I think it also has to do with the fact that a lot of younger buyers love the look of the CLS, but can't afford one. Therefore MB is capitalizing on this fact, not necessarily that the CLS is doing bad.

I personally like the CLS a lot, I'd like one but given my age I'd prefer to stick with something a little more sporty then luxury. Which is why I'm interesting in the CLA AMG.

Owning a CLA will never compare with or be as prestigious with owning a CLS. The CLS makes a statement. Since they are expected to sell in higher numbers, it just wouldn't have that exclusivity status that the CLS commands and people with that kind of money desire. Have you sat in one? my god it is like sitting in a comfortable and spacious tank whereas the CLA will probably be cramped. Plus with all the publicity, everyone knows its a 34k Benz and the buyers are price conscious looking for bang for the buck.

It's also not a shocker that many auto companies diffuse the styling ques of higher models into their lower ones. That's nothing new here and I believe it has little to do with CLS sales being low (they aren't intended to be mass sold like the CLA - the buyer alone is in a completely different class).

Well, to be fair, the ORIGINAL AMG (190E) was a inline 4...so this is kinda going back to the roots.

(except that one was built by Cosworth, raced, etc.)

Speed2K 05-26-2013 07:57 PM

For those of you who haven't seen my Barcelona Autoshow thread, check it out for a few pictures of a red CLA in there. http://www.revscene.net/forums/68451...-autoshow.html

Here are a few more:

Runflat tires:

Goodyear Eagle F1's on this one

Because of the rear rake the back seat headroom isn't the greatest. I'm about 5'9" and my head touches the roof liner.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps2dbc9dac.jpg

Trunk space looks good though:

Photos with my backpack in the trunk (specs of backpack: 10.6 x 6.7 x 19.3" (27 x 17 x 49cm) )

Overall, I think it looks nice; although I wouldn't want to sit in the back seat for an extended period of time.

knight604 09-10-2013 04:17 PM

soon?

Lomac 09-10-2013 05:24 PM

I've gotta say, this thing is starting to grow on me. When I first saw the interior, I thought that the centre stack looked more at home in something like the new Fords, but I'm beginning to like it. Even without the AMG package, it's actually pretty nice looking.

I'll take one in white, thankyouverymuch.

FWD kills it for me, though. :okay:

TatsuyaKataoka 09-10-2013 05:25 PM

I'd rather have the A45...

Hey European car makers, there IS a fucking market for hot hatches in North America! Give us the Civic Type R and Focus RS already!

ZN6 10-07-2013 07:01 PM

Wow, 26.1psi of boost pressure in the AMG. Wonder how big the turbo is to flow that much. Watch C-lais start throwing in 87 octane. *knock knock knock knock knock knock knock knock knock* and BOOM goes the dynamite.

EvoFire 10-07-2013 07:45 PM

Saw one on the road today. It front looks good, the rear end looks like they melted a C class..... Not a looker.

AW607 10-07-2013 09:12 PM

Yeah, started seeing a couple on the road, but it does look oddly.. feminine :suspicious:
