I've driven B8 A4 and S4, let's just say I sold my manual A4 within a year of ownership based on the extreme boring drive "feel". My S4 test drive didn't feel much different as I was very disconnected with the road and steering response was lacking. Then I went for the 335i, which I absolutely loved. The reason why I'm saying this car has better driving dynamics than the 435i is because it is made and engineered by AMG division, just like I'm a believer in the M-division. I didn't mention interior, technology, or design. Just the overall driving dynamics. I made the comparison only to express my opinion from a previous post. I guess we'll wait for the reviews to really validate CLA 45's achievement, or therefore a lack of.

Good points and thank you for replying.

I think that the CLA should be compared to the A3 and the 1 series rather than the A4 and the 435i.

To the best of my knowledge, the chassis for the CLA is smaller than the A4 and the 435i, so it should be more nimble.

In any case, your points do have merit.

The S4 and manyl of the Audis's electronic steering has exactly what you described (response was lacking).

I can't wait until the CLA45 AMG comes out and real comparison reviews come out.

The CLA45 will pose some serious competition.

A quick little car.

How is the backseat space looking? The C-class is already really tight(basically unusable with a driver over 6'), but it's looking like the CLA will have even tighter backseats.

Seems like a cool car, but the proportions are just odd. M-B interiors are awesome though. BMW interiors are bland in comparison.

they sell it as a 4dr coupe for a reason.

if your a short drawf with long legs, you should be ok in the back seat

That is getting close to C63 price point. They might just replace the c63 down the road.

Doubt it, the CLA is meant for a different market segment, like marshall said, it's meant to compete against the rs3/m135i rather then a c63.

CLA 45 base starts at $49xxxish
C63 base starts at $63xxxish

Comparatively speaking the CLA is a better street package then the C. In terms of performance i think there neck and neck in performance in the quarter mile. The 45 pulls pretty hard outta the whole and has a massive midrange, i was suprised it didn't have greater top end, the C63 definitely has a greater top end from a highway pull it feels like a C63 could walk on it. I'm curious to see what tuners can do with it cuz it feels like the turbo is pretty maxed on out it but for a 2L turbo 4 with oem reliability and driveabilty its an impressive motor.

The suspension and chassis tuning feels really good and very un mercedes like, suspension is very firm and we dampened, compared to the C63 which i consider the ride to be harsh and over sprung. For steering i feel the C63 has better steering feedback and road feel, but the CLA45 is pretty good and firm too.

I haven't driven the optional Recaro set up but C63 seats are more supportive and have larger side bolstering. I perfer the interior of the CLA except for the infotainment display, it looks like it was an afterthought and sticks out like a sore thumb, wish they would have integrated that better. If your taller then 5.8 you won't have any headroom in the back.

Overall the CLA is quieter, smooter gets better fuel economy but give up nothing in performance.

Unfortunately that stupid display isn't limited to the CLA. Saw on fb that the new c-class interior will sport the same thing :/

Is there any incentives to the CLA? Or are they currently all selling at MSRP?

!SG 11-23-2013 07:08 AM

there's a waitlist AFAIK. supply isnt keeping up with demand. so best bet is to call your dealers to see what stock they have, or have available.

but at the same time, its kinda the calm before the storm too. as everyones waiting for the 45 to show.

Boundary MB told me $2,000 refundable deposit.

multicartual 04-16-2014 03:48 AM

There are so many dope older cars, hard to justify buying anything brand new

What the M235i really needs is a diff. I'd get the BMW over the CLA45 any day--it's just so much cheaper. The best one imo would be a base 228i; it seems like a very good deal.
