Didn't at least one kid question this or say "Are we really supposed to be doing this in school?"
I haven't been to Paramount but if anything, the girls are treated with typical Canadian friendliness. If you get out of line, chances are you're going to get your ass handed to you.
I remember our RS Brandi's meet years and years ago...the dancers loved the girls, came to chat with us after.
Never seen any of the stuff on that pamplet...although I did see some drunk white boy get thrown out like DJ Jazzy Jeff. It was as hilarious as it sounds.
I've been to the Paramount a few times and am friends with a couple of the strippers (one current, one ex) and know one of the bouncers through a mutual friend. Because there's no liquor, rowdy customers are few and far between, meaning there's much less chance of the dancers being harassed in an unwanted way. The bouncers are usually pretty quick on the uptake when it comes to people acting in an unfriendly manner as well. As for the girls, well those that I talked to don't do it because they've been "forced" into it; it's because they know it's quick, easy money. Some of 'em do it because they enjoy dancing and because the Paramount doesn't allow liquor, they know they wont be harassed as much compared to a place like Number 9 or where ever else.
This petition is stupid. Instead of blindly attacking a club, they need to talk to the people who work there and get their opinions first.
I know I was relatively stupid as a teen, but I'm pretty damn sure I wasn't this stupid.
Kids these days piss me off, jesus. My generation was never this retarded. Sometimes they need to get slapped. Targeting one strip club and not thinking about the employees that choose to work there. Posted via RS Mobile

From the article, it sounds like this was the KIDS' idea in the first place:
Quote:
As part of a social justice class project, a group of Dr. Charles Best Secondary students will be heading to the Royal City in order to gather signatures for a petition calling on politicians to shut the strip club down.
...
Teacher Ken Ipe said the Grade 12s decided to focus on the Paramount because some of them have friends who frequent the club.
There's all kinds of in this though...
Quote:
"We think that sexism is not a healthy part of society and I think that strip clubs are a reminder that blatant sexism is alive and well in the culture," he told The NOW.
As others have noted, it's SEXIST to assume that the women working there are doing so against their well. What this petition is saying is that they shouldn't have THE CHOICE. How is THAT not sexist?
Quote:
About 50 students from the school are set to meet Saturday at Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue in New West, where they will set up information tables and break into groups to try and get signatures from residents.
So the consensus here is that the club is extremely low-key on the outside, and some who live in the area didn't even know it was there? So what are they going to sell these "residents" on? Reducing the bums hanging around out front? Oh wait, that doesn't happen. Reducing the drug trade in front of the... nope, nope, don't have that either (there's probably more of that around City Hall).

If these tools want to protest and try to make change about something why don't they look into sex trade workers that are forced into it, rather than women who are doing a job that they CHOSE to do. Their slogan should be "Putting women out of honest work"
Same here. First strip club I ever went to. Snuck my (at the time) 17 year old girlfriend in at the same time. (yes, I was one of those creepers who dated a high schooler after graduating... )

Wait a minute.... is that who I think it is?
I used to live with a stripper and when I asked her how come she stripped instead of having a "real" (I was in grade 8) job, she told me it was easy money and she enjoyed it. She'd only had one bad experience and that was her ex showing up (who got thrown out once he started making a scene apparently).
The teacher should have had more sense than to say yes to this imo. Maybe he's butthurt cuz he got thrown out for trying to touch a dancer, or got rejected by one

Not really, we shared a house with my dad's friend who was a stripper (my mom and dad have been divorced since I was 3 or 4). She was really nice, but kinda weird.

Ah, welcome to the club

Same here. My wife and I had our first apartment in the area while she went to Douglas. It would get so hot in our apt that we'd go to Mugs for a beer and some AC to cool down before going home to bed lol. She got a lot of attention from the strippers as well.. ahh memories.

These kids have had the world's best titties delivered to them at broadband speed since before acne.
No one has shown them what a pro/semi-pro dancer can do for them! Interactive...3d titties, right up in your face.
Someone needs to step up, and educate these high schoolers. With boobs.
forget that. I grew up with porn too (mind you, pictures that took 2 hours to load)...but when i first met my 3 tittied queen in vegas, i fell in love with the clothes-less arts

You guys had it easy - I had to get my porn the old-fashioned way: the women's underwear and swimsuit sections of the Sears Catalog!
