(the main reason im worried about Abrams is i think he'll ruin Lucas' star wars like he did with Star Trek)

i think these guys would be better choices than Abrams
McG could of done it well (terminator salvation, we are marshall, charlies angels)
Whedon as suggested
Andrew Stanton (directed john carter, wall e, finding nemo + he wrote the story for toy story 1/2/3/4*, wall-e, etc)
Kurt Wimmer (equilibrium, ultraviolet, salt etc)

or if they were able to get them someone like Ridley Scott or Richard Donner (might be too old now though)

etc

side note

Dude... Abram's star trek was badass. It was refreshing and faithful enough to the original material to keep trekkies happy. And did u really suggest mcg? U fucking kidding me? Terminator salvation fucked the terminator series in the ass even more-so than t3. Everything he directed is a heaping pile of shit. Kurt wimmer is not a bad choice as equilibrium was pretty well written and directed.

But mcg? Wtf seriously lol

44 old enough? Been watching Trek for as long as I can remember. Read pretty much every related book that had been published up until I was 16 or so. And yeah, I LOVED the new Trek (which incidentally, is playing on Showcase at this moment). It's a good story... great casting... all around well executed. Not going to get bent over some lens flares.

That's like saying uwe boll doesn't write any of his movies; he just directs them.

Abrams is awesome. He saved mission impossible with MI3. He made star trek relevant to the new generation (and I am fucking pumped for the sequal). And I believe he can save star wars. Now if only they let abrams handle the new jurassic park...

and for every, one old fan there's another that didn't like it

im not just speaking of lens flares either; the whole point of the series imo was one of exploration and scientific discoveries with some battles strewn between and wars weren't exactly depicted on screen except for (ds9) or the odd clip thrown in (one of the next generation films that coincided with ds9)

With the new film all it was was an explosionrama and every character was aggressive and violent... even spock

hopefully the next one will be more traditional

Captain Kirk in a battle to the death with the Gorn. The Chasing of the first cloaked Romulan Warbird which had destroyed the Neutral Zone outposts. The Destruction of the "God" Vaal of those freaky red people. The takeover of the Chicago-style mafia planet as "The Federation" taking a cut from everyone. The destruction of Landru because "it wasn't really their civilization anymore". The destruction of the computer that had been simulating war in "A taste of Armageddon".

TOS was very different from TNG and DS9 and Voyager. It was an action-adventure in space where everyone was good and on the same side as long as they were on the Enterprise. I loved the new Star Trek movie (which, as Soundy mentioned was on and is coming back on shortly on Showcase) because it went back to the TOS roots. Progressive positive action. Of course, because they were rebooting to before the series had happened, they couldn't have any of the bonds that were in TOS without conflict to form them. That's just a reality.

Lens flares be damned, if he can revitalize Star Wars like he did Star Trek...damn.

Have you never watched any of the other Star Trek movies? They are all like that! With the exception of Generations and Journey Home, they are all pretty much just action flicks.

meh i disagree as they dont take up the whole movie, as i said there are battles strewn in the films/shows but they don't dominate the film

with star trek it was just constant booom, kblooom, kablamooooo, pow pow pow, punch, scream, kick, roaar, pew pew pew, kabooom
and like i said it was a good action flick

this. not to sound like a JJ Abrams nut hugger, but him saving the MI series with MI3 is evidence enough imo. that reminds me I need to buy MI3 on blu-ray.

As long as I get to see a young Han win the Falcon from Lando in a game of Sabacc, I'm good to go.

Id like a Han Solo quadriology/trilogy

1 with Harrison ford and maybe 3 or 2 as prequels with a younger actor as Han

ideally a trilogy with Ford as Han damn Lucas for not doing that decades ago

Shit, Han origin story. Han in the Imperial Academy. Getting kicked out. Smuggling and Raiding and freeing Wookie slaves and...oh man.

If done well, this is going to be AWESOME.

The Han Solo Trilogy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not enough Wookie in these books though. Chewbacca definitely needs more screen time in any Han Solo origin trilogy. Plus Boba Fett of course. And the Hutts.

George Lucas confirms Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher are in final negotiations

George Lucas Says Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford Are in the ‘Final Stages of Negotiation’

interview in Businessweek
Quote:
“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison — or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation." He quickly realized his misstep: “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then, trying to cover up: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

As long as they're only in for a short cameo or something, like an Aunt Beru/Uncle Owen scene, I'm fine with it.
