EBAY help

I bought something on Ebay and the buyer lives 30 minutes from me. I plan on picking it up myself and the seller is OK with that but the only option for payment right now is PayPal including a $75 shipping fee. We need to get rid of the shipping fee or just skip PayPal and pay him cash? It's the first thing the seller has ever bought or sold on Ebay.

You can simply mark the item as paid from the Purchased list in the list of items. Then just meet up with him in person and agree on a positive feedback. Did this before with a lens just this past summer.

Make sure he's alright with you picking it up locally. Message him using eBay's message service.

If he tries to fuck you over or anything, PayPal/eBay can access your messages and can confirm you two indeed met up and agreed and what not.

Hope everything goes well!

OP should know if you circumvent ebay/PayPal and shit goes south ebay/PayPal won't help or talk to you. Pretty much same boat if you pay cash so make sure it is not broken. Seller can reinvoice so you have a papertrail

Resolution Centre - eBay

tick

'I want to cancel a transaction' under 'I sold an item'

and follow the steps

it'll send a msg to the buyer as well and there's a process but its real easy

Local deal will always be better for the seller than shipping because of ebay + paypal fees & shipping costs and materials.

i got a ebay question

there was an item i was gonna buy on Ebay but decided to private message the seller to get a better deal instead.

the price we agreed on was with shipping and taxes included

is there a way to confirm hes adding the shipping and taxes in the total price so that when my package arrives i wouldent be subjected to any extra hidden taxes or shipping costs?

im not talking about customs and brokerage fees. just taxes and shipping fees.

He also gave me his email so we could do the transfer through paypal instead so I could get a better deal than the ebay listing

Sometimes even with local deals I ask the buyer to Paypal me first before meeting up and giving him the item. Because what if the guy sees the item and changes his mind, flakes, or doesn't show up? As a buyer, the Ebay/Paypal guarantees totally protect you but it doesn't do nearly as much for the seller.

Vansterdam: if the item you bought was from the US, it only included the US portion of the tax. There's no way the shipper can guarantee that Canada will not charge their own tax on it when it clears customs, and you would be on the hook for that. If the item you bought was from a Canadian retailer, then the tax is collected at the time of payment and Canada Post can't collect the tax on their behalf from you.

to add to what UFO said if it's a US item, be sure that the seller CLEARLY identifies the cost of the item vs the total cost. US sellers don't get we get pooched with duties or often forget. A friendly reminder couldn't hurt. i bought a replacement rim for $80 once and shipping was $40. it arrived and i had to pay fed-ex's fees for $120 b/c the seller put total cost $120 and Fed-ex assumed that was just the item.

The only way you could be subject to shipping costs when you receive the package is if he sent it COD, which is extremely unlikely.

Is he sending from the US or Canada? If he is sending from Canada, there is no way you'll have to pay taxes when receiving the shipment. However, if it's from the US, then you might still be subject to paying customs (which includes taxes)

i would never allow someone to buy something on ebay, pay by paypal and pick it up. that buyer can easily claim he never got it and as a seller you are out of luck.

even if you take a photo of them and have their signature, paypal can tell you to chase payment from them through small claims.

as stated before, the seller can say it's paid for and you can give him cash in person. lots of good advice in this thread!

Seller felt uncomfortable so I paid by paypal and he refunded me the shipping. Maybe I should file a claim with paypal and say he never shipped?

I'm just kidding but I have heard people doing that. The person first had the item on Craigslist for $$750 I offered $600 he said $650. I called back a few days later and he had listed it on Ebay. Ended up paying $760.
