No worries. I currently have an HTC Desire HD, so I'm familiar with "most" of HTC's stock stuff. I know the gallery is different with the One as Zoe has been introduced and everything like that.

I'm thinking based on what you have for programs/connections running, I would assume about half the drain you have in a day for my uses, depending on brightness as well obviously.

Thanks for the info though; I'm hoping to either get this deal, or wait for my device balance (and phone price) to go down considerably while waiting for the black version.

So I just started using the "TV" feature of the phone and it's simply AMAZING.

There is an IR reader on the power button, so it can control any TV. I currently have it set up for my LG TV. I have Rogers cable with basic cable from channels 1-28. It has replaced my remote and on the phone it shows all the channels on the phone.

ie. right now, the "recommend" shows for me are NCIS LA, The voice, the goodwife, national, criminal minds, etc. And they show as thumbnails on my phone. I simply have to press the thumbnail and the phone automatically changes the channel to that show. It's such an awesome feature. I love it.

They just released an update for the phone, the battery life is slightly better and the capacitive buttons are more sensitive!
Thank goodness they fixed this

Battery life + Samsung S4

Just an update with the phone in regards to battery life.
So I tried using the phone for a few days with the power saving mode off and the battery life is pretty crappy.

Wifi is on, gmail is push, social media is push, screen is auto brightness, data is auto between LTE and 4G, I listen to about an hour of music on transit to work, play candy crush for about 15-20mins.
The phone is off the charger at 630-7am, its about 20-30% when I get home around 5pm. I have to plug it in when i'm home, which really annoys me. Granted, it does last longer than my nexus 4, but i'm still not impressed.

So if you don't use power saving mode, you will probably be disappointed with battery life. I just read that if you use power saving mode and just turn on "conserve cpu" you can get 20-30% more battery life out of the phone without compromising on speed. So i'll try that. Though, I don't mind the full power saving mode on. But, i'll try just the "conserve cpu" option so i'll still get my emails/social media pushed.

-----

On another note, I was looking into the S4 a lot lately and I've been checking out their "features" on the phone and i'm super impressed. All the little things you can do with the phone look really cool, if not gimmicky. The plethora of camera options are really intriguing.

I'm definitely happy with my HTC One, but I think I should have gave the S4 some more thought. If you're going to get the HTC One soon, it would be worth it to check out the S4 as well.

Coming from a Note II to a HTC One, here are things I immediately miss:

1) a removable battery
2) battery life
3) battery life.

Plan and simple if you want to go the distance without having to worry about charging the bloody thing, get a phone with a removable batter such as the Note II/S4. Otherwise if you enjoy the bullshit that iPhone users have to go through each and every day, the One is for you.

/endrant

So my 1st impressions of owning the One over the weekend and all I can really say is wow for the hardware and a love hate relationship for Sense 5 / software menu key. HTC, why didn't you make your damn HTC logo a home button!

Gave the stock ROM a chance for about 4 hours. Under heavy usage and the thing drained a little to quick for my liking. Said fuck the stock ROM and started ROM hunting.

After playing around with a few, settled on the Maximus7 ROM. Battery life is still not up to my liking but it's the only ROM so far I've used which was able to beat the average S4 3DMark score on both normal and extreme so I guess I'll stay with it.

Will report my battery usage in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully I'll find a way to get at least 20 hours of usage out of this thing with all the bells and whistles without resorting to the power save feature...

The stock HTC keyboard is quite good. Now if only they could have it auto space without me using it's Swype like features it'll be perfect.

BlinkFeed... guh... I don't know how I should feel about this... on one hand, its perfect the way its executed within the Sense 5 launcher, yet HTC totally fucked it by not allowing you to customize the sources. Until HTC allows me to use a proper News/NHL RSS source, it's total shit unless your a Facebook/Twitter lover. Personally I feel that HTC could have sold a lot more One's if they allowed full customization of the feed sources in BlinkFeed alone but I understand why they locked it down.

This thing puts my s3 battery to shame for sure though. I can get it to last the day.

Gsm arena did some battery tests and this thing came second next to the s4

The first week or so, the battery was disappointing, but after about 1.5 weeks, i noticed the battery got a lot better.

I've actually been very impressed with my battery life.
with Power saver and sleep mode off, I average 2-2.5hrs screen on, and it's lasting well over 16hrs off charger.
This is with all mail and message syncing on, Google Latitude updating my location, Google Now activated, and with LTE on. One thing I don't have that you guys probably do is Facebook - I disabled it because GSam reported that it was eating lots of battery.

I've never actually run it down entirely to see how far it would go, because I plug in when i go to sleep, but GSam app estimates 21hr 08min off charger.

I don't know whether that's better or worse than the S4, but I don't need more battery life than that.

I don't know if this actually did anything, but I tried the classic HTC charge after about 5 charge cycles or so:
Official response from HTC RE: How to double battery Life (WORKS!) + 2nd Reply - xda-developers

You guys that are reporting bad battery life, give this a try..i'm curious if it actually does anything.

^Do you think the battery life improved because you had everything set up the way you wanted it after a week?

What rom are you guys running?

Looking at the pics on the site it seems it doesn't go all the way to the edge so a case should be fine. Check reviews online I guess.

Do you guys ever get paranoid about the edges of the screen that arent protected by screen protectors? I've been looking around and it seems like even the wet apply ones dont account for the edges

I put an otterbox defender on it. The built in screen protector of the otterbox is something to be desired.

The size in your hand is just awesome with the case for grip but I wish it had a fatter ass to grab when taking photos.

I'm using an incipio frequency case. Slim and provides adequate protection. No problem with edgers of screen protector bubbling.
