I know all about that, the owner was an idiot. The other idiots who had their frame bent did either one of these two:
1. Modified stock suspension and went way too fast offroad(Raptors aren't invincible)
2. Towed way beyond its rating. I think the crew cab is rated at 6k#s and someone towed 12000 pounds and wondered why it bent.

that's what I thought also, I used to work for GM as a lot boy and heard some pretty crazy stories and claims people did and tried to get warranty from

Ram Runner...

:heckno:

That thing is fugly as hell. I love ugly looking trucks, but it has to be something like an old 80's era Toyota pickup for it to have that ugly/beautiful combination to work.

I've worked on a few raptors and they are 100% awesome. From a reliability stand point they are great, I haven't had one come in with any problems at all. They seem expensive, yes, but build a loaded f150 and the raptor starts to seem like a good deal. Especially considering the options it comes with stock. Many of the f150s I work on are very similar msrp but not raptor.

Just remember the Raptor is a bit taller than any other F150 and doesn't clear all underground parkades like the other F150s do. It is also a bit wider than the other F150s which are already super wide when parking in side-by-side parking stalls. If you want something different and cool - the Raptor fits the bill. If you want a truck that is slightly more practical and a WAY better deal, get an FX4. Still looks almost as cool as a Raptor - almost as rare - but about $10k cheaper for almost exactly the same truck minus the wider body and suspension. Non-SVT trucks will get lower interest rates and huge discounts off MSRP compared to Raptors.

I've got a 2011 F150 XTR CrewCab 5.0L short box, Black, and I fucking LOVE my truck. It's been great towing the race car, mud crawling, in snow, around town... camping.. I never ever thought I would be bombing around in a pickup.. but the interior space and confidence to go ANYWHERE is great.. plus it's a really good looking truck, everyone always says what a good looking truck it is!

PS make sure you get the CrewCab.. SO much more practical than the stupid superCab.

+1 I absolutely love my 12 SCREW, the interior space is absolutely ridiculous especially in the rear passenger area. I've got some friends that are in the 6'-3" height range and they have leg room in the back, with room to spare, it's nuts.

Oooh, That road looks like fun. Where is it?

Im a huge ford fan, and I wouldn't bother with a Raptor, ever. My buddy keeps telling me to buy one as I am in the market to trade in my old 2011 Ram. SO OLD. I want nothing to do with them. I would rather get the new FX4 with appearance package and eco-boost. The Raptors are essentially useless. They don't even really get many looks since they are a production vehicle. I would rather see a custom lifted truck then a Raptor. They can't tow fuck all, they get AWFUL gas milage, and power wise they aren't very impressive. 411hp form a 6.2L? My Ram is 391 stock out of a 5.7L. With the gearing my truck has, I suspect I am just as quick off the line and in a race with a Raptor. Im either going to get a 2012 Cummins or a 2012/13 FX4 Eco-boost.

It's our private off-road training course. That's the V-ditch, looks crazy when you're in the truck, but looks tame when looking at the trucks from outside. We have a few obstacles, like log crossings, hills and berms, and various ditches to practice crossing and getting stuck/unstuck.

MarkyMark 02-21-2013 12:48 PM

90% of the people buying raptors get it for the looks I imagine. You could get an FX 4 but it won't be quite the head turner that the raptor is.

Although some of the allure might wear off when you can't fit into a lot of parking spaces and it's too tall to go into certain undergrounds.

I have a 2010 Tacoma doublecab long bed and I think it's a great size for what I use it for...but I don't tow anything.

When the Raptor came out I thought about trading in the MS3 for one. I think it would be perfect for all the accessible gravel roads the island has. Would make the road out to Bamfield feel like a limousine ride.

But I just can't bring myself to daily drive a truck.

broken_arrow 02-21-2013 04:38 PM

I really want the 800 hp Hennessey VelociRaptor 800 TT! :fullofwin:

beproud 02-21-2013 09:35 PM

I think it's an incredible truck, looks good and provides the performance when needed. But 6.2L V8? I can't imagine the gas bills eh.

I'd consider one with the 3.2l power stroke and if the shift knob was the top of the cane from Jurassic park

no love for the Sierra/Silverado 2500 duramax ?

sdubfid 02-24-2013 04:11 PM

comparing apples to oranges

you wont be jumping a stock duramax for long and a stock raptor wont be towing 30000lbs for long

Endless love, but like sdubfid wrote, they're very different trucks.

VRYALT3R3D 02-24-2013 08:07 PM

The Raptor is pretty much the only truck I'd ever own. Besides, it will hold its value higher.

I made up my mind, and Raptor it is. The dealers here tempted me with some really good prices, but its too early to purchase it. I am holding off to the end of the year to get one...:) My DD gets around 18MPG city and drinks Premium fuel, so I am not too worried about the fuel costs. The fun factor and all the features make up for it. Parking it on the other hand......

Rich Sandor 02-24-2013 08:24 PM

If you've never owned a big truck before, the only advice I have is to plan ahead for parking before leaving home. If you have an appointment downtown, plan to be there 10-15min EARLY so you can find an outdoor parking lot, because about 75-90% of empty street parking is too tight for my truck (crew cab short box) and you won't be able to get into many undergounds. Sometimes you luck out though. Don't worry too much about door dings.. most ppl's car doors will hit your running board before they hit your door panel.
