^^ depends......... I know plenty of: Doctors who love their job Educators who love their job Coaches who love their job Researchers who love their job Politicians who love their job (RIP, Chuck Cadman) And let's not forget those who volunteer Common theme? I believe it is because they know they are making a difference in the lives of others? (while getting paid) Plus, most of the jobs listed above are suited for life long learners. I feel sorry for those who are stuck in jobs they hate........... my second job, when I had it, sucked ass........ if it weren't for the great people I worked with...... I'd be fucking miserable! |

They cant willy nilly choose to help when they want, they still serve a boss and get bossed around. |

In my job, I collaborate... something called teamwork, and yes there is a boss, but he's a really cool guy I can have fun with. In the end, my friend, we all end up six feet under. I hope you find peace, my friend. I am at peace with myself, are you? god bless............ |
Yes. I'm still young and learning everyday at work. A real man should be handy and able to do things for himself. I would hate to be one of those useless people with lots of money who don't even know how to wipe their own ass. What happens one day if money becomes worthless? The strong will pillage the weak and those who can't do anything for themselves will be tossed aside to die. |
i guess diff people value different things. I value freedom from a schedule. If I don't feel like getting up to my "job/hobby/project" then I don't have to. If i suddenly decide i want to go to another place on this planet, I can just take off the same day, and blow off all other plans/responsibilities. I like helping people too, but I want to be able to choose who I help... If im at a job where I help people it can only bring me so much happiness. I eventually will wanna turn away people, or not help certain people, or ... like i said, take off for an unknown period of time (days weeks months years) to anywhere I want and do whatever I want. my biggest pet peeve is obeying schedules dictated by society. when work should be done, when lunch should be eaten, when breaks should be taken, when you should sleep, when you should be awake. fuck that shit. all those things make living hellish. it's just a prison with no walls. everyone has a dream... a dream they've had since they were a kid or in the back of their minds that is unrelated to their jobs... something almost of fantasy. a fantastical situation... where jobs/careers/rat race/paying bills etc is totally irrelevant. i think most people are very malleable... they are satisfied and happy at their jobs because of society and time... they have been beaten and shaped into something they want to believe is happy. but if society and expectations were never there to begin with, and they were free to do as they please... they would be very different people... and more importantly... happier. gotta remember his question is.... would you go to work.. if you DIDNT HAVE TO... not a trade off or.. settling for some balance... there is no trade off or balance... you simply don't have to work anymore... period. |

There are plenty of people who love their job because they're making a positive difference, or because it's something they simply enjoy. By no means do I enjoy being an engineer, but it's something I don't dread doing. Plus it's stable and pays well, so I'm easily able to fund other life goals I want to accomplish. (Arts, travel, business). That's a trade-off I'm happy with. I'm grateful I was able to find a balance, but if the only choices were the two extremes, I would much rather work a lower-paying job I enjoy than a high-paying job I hate. |
i value freedom and life experience over work. if i work at a place where i'm not experiencing anything, i would quit. if i work at a place where i have to follow strict rules, i would quit. if i work at a place where i have to pretend to be doing something where there is nothing to do, i would quit. if i work at a place where i get yelled at for being 1 - 2 minutes late, i would quit. i'm a wanderer. i'm not a follower nor am i leader. but i would consider myself a better leader than a follower. which means that i like to do what i want to do, when i want to do. i think the things that makes work a living hell is taxes. we get taxed for every dollar that comes into and out of our pocket. just imagine that a dollar is passed around between 5 people. by the time it reaches the fifth person, he will have nearly zero dollar left. |
