this reminds me of the russian male's constant torment in the expectations from his non-russian friends of him to constantly be able to tolerate extreme amounts of vodka and ridiculous levels of cold, without proper clothing

"damn it's cold as a bitch out here. but hey you're russian"

BITCH I GOT WARM BLOOD JUST LIKE YOU

Reminds me of my bro's friend, who got straight A's in school with the exception of one course where he got a B... so he went to summer school to redo the course

This was grade 10, IIRC

I grew up like that...I got beaten down since grade 1 with bad grades. Luckily I moved to Van in grade 4 and it was much better. I suppose the culture was more relaxed and my mom didn't have easy access to stories about her friends'/relatives' kids.

Shit's brutal though.

I had a Korean friend go through very similar/worse situation back in grade 12 when it really mattered for getting into a good post secondary. He was a straight A student from Grade5-10. In grade 11 he fumbled a bit with math, and would literally disappear from starcraft for weeks after he got his math test results back (likely because he had to show his parents the results-sub 80%). In grade 12, he totally crashed, his parents pushed him over the edge, verbally disowned him and he became super depressed and completely bombed out of grade 12.

My parents don't really give a shit about grades either, however, they've never neglected my education (getting a RESP setup for me when I had C-'s in grade 5, lol everyone thought my parents were insane). All I can say is that I'm extremely grateful for some of the unique opportunities they've given me. I also have a very open relationship with my parents, I tell them when I drink, blaze, or smoke, they don't really condone it but they're happy I tell them. They've supported me in all my decisions, moved from east van which they loved to North Burnaby cause I wanted to go to a different highschool. Obviously that's probably a given, but even the small things, for example my mom knows I lift and she tailored our whole families diet to support mine, getting dat protein in and getting rid of all the shitty carbs Asian people generally eat. The result for all my parent's efforts? I'm graduating with an academic average that any Asian mom would be proud of (yes even the one in the video) and I'm ambitious as fuck to "make it" and provide my parents financial freedom (ball out) as soon as I can. And my parents aren't immigrant farmers either, they both went to top universities in China on their first try at that retarded standarized exam that determined your academic standing, a feat in their time.

I'm grateful that my parents were never that extreme with me... I've been beat and lectured but never for something as absurd as "only 91%"

Though before I moved here, getting beat and punished in asia would be more like:

wasnt too far from the truth... but honestly, the director was very restraint with the language..

my mom uasually says smth like "you failed me as a son, you wont succeed with your effort right now, no women is gonna marry you because you will be poor, jobless and homeless and all that crap..."

then the parents tell you how they have given up/ruined their future so you can have a better one here (talking about immigration). Saying how they would have it easy right now if they were still in china... and shit... fuck

as if I was the one who made them come here, who made them give up their lifes, and the video forgot to add the 2 hour piano lesson in between all the studying!

sorry, kinda connected with the video

end rant///

aiii.. fuck...

=P great vid btw...

Your parents are secretly saying "Son, I am disappoint..."

This is why you can't have an MR2.

bro, just seeing that brings back the fear.. I can honestly still remember what it felt like to see that thing.

Those were deadly times (for the most part, I did deserve the beatings though).

The classic feather duster. All Asian moms had to take courses in how to wield that shit.

The way you hold it and when to hit........ the secret was to develop fear from the sight of it.

Tactic #1 to tease the kid with small little whacks, then without warning, the big whip.

Tactic#2 to yell at the top of your lungs to show the rest of the neighbours you have the power. Wave it in front of kid's face and draw it back a few times, walk away then "boom".

Tactic #3............

My mom just used hockey sticks and baseball bats, LOL. I had to hide all my shit (badminton racquet was the worst). Mom was like all of 4 feet 10 inches, but scared the shit out of me.

Asian dad's must be thinking, thank god I was never around.

Looking forward to the day my dad gives me advice on parenting. If I ask him for his credentials, I wonder if I'd get the feather duster.

At my house, minor disobedience got you the belt - major problems got you the buckle.
