Stave Lake shennanigans thread (small social meets)

So as not to further hijack the Triangle Beach thread... had my first chance today to get the new YJ dirty. Not TOO too dirty yet, but it's a good start :)

More pics coming once I download them all from my cameras... meanwhile, here a few the wife snapped with her Note:

Pretty sick - the guys closest here had some kind of big plastic bin converted into a hot tub.

looks like fun times...wish i could've made it out for this one.

nice shots. on a side note if your gonna be playin with your YJ trim that exhaust tip down so its not the furthest thing stickin out in the back of the jeep. You will back it into stuff and run the likely hood of cracking your exhaust manifold if you do as jeep exhaust manifolds suck at the best of times

PinoyDrifta 03-14-2013 09:39 AM

Nice pics... Maybe I should have gone to stave instead of fishing... Oh well there's always next time

SIDE STEPS!!!?? Is it an H2?!:nyan:

I'm sure you mean "sliders" right lol

stewie 03-15-2013 04:07 PM

little off topic here, but last time i was up at stave (in the summer) some of the guys who were wheeling beside our campsite were telling us that stave is gonna be having some work done to it and the logging roads in might be getting shut down during the construction.....

anyone know anything about this?? or if they were just drunk and rambling lol

i wouldnt mind going camping and shooting up there when the weather clears up a bit.

That seems awfully mild for stave lake, I've always thought of stave lake as this:

Don't you follow my build/mod thread? :D I have a set of TJ steps for it - the wife is 5'2" and needs the help to get up over the tub sides :)

There are signs up that the Sayres Lake Recreation Area is closed for construction... I don't know if that applies to the road heading up there, though, or just access to the lake. The sign is right where the road to the flats splits off (aka Rocky Point). The two times I'd been up before in the Patriot, we went that way, so this time we turned off to the flats instead.

Stave lake Idiot - YouTube

Delica drivers :fulloffuck: "You know it's bad when the headlights are full of water, eh?"

I'm sure there were some holes like that around when we were by there, but everyone was smart enough to stay away from them.

Lowered_Klass 03-16-2013 08:09 AM

Stave lake can be a very, VERY humbling expeirence.

It only takes being buried up to ur doors once, to remind you how useless your rig can be up there.

After that, anytime I went up to stave with my XJ, I always made sure I brought a case of beer with me, along with usual recovery straps, etc.

Especially the beer though. It's like currency up there when shit goes sideways lol.

These threads really make me miss my XJ :okay:

T4RAWR 03-17-2013 08:34 AM

ditto.

did he at least give you guys some cash or beer?

ive never had to call a tow truck up to stave(yet LOL) but from what ive heard is that its an extremely heft bill just to get the tow truck up there..

some lady in the summer was stuck in her oldschool toyota tercel, when i got there the tow truck driver was already hooked up to her, asked her how much it was jsut to get him out, there she said 300$....

side note, when you guys go up there, do you ever have problems with guys shooting rounds?? or do you guys just keep your distance? cause theres jack asses who shoot on the flats, and then theres the guys who go up the road and shoot into areas of forest thats been cut down or shoot into a giant sand mound.

just curious cause im up there shooting at times and ive never had anyone complain to me..but then again i dont know if its cause someones just to scared to come up and ask me to stop.

anyways, cant wait for camping up there!!!!

GabAlmighty 03-17-2013 03:56 PM

Ya, you don't ever want to get a tow truck up to Stave. Was talking to a tow truck driver once about it. They start charging more once they hit the gravel road, and then incremental amount depending on how much mud they get on themselves.

If you're stuck in the mud up at Stave there should be someone around that can pull you out.

?uestlove 03-17-2013 04:21 PM

i'd rather pay the huge ass tow bill than leave my shit on the trail, especially anywhere near stave

My current Toyota I can honestly say i'd be hard pressed to care enough

?uestlove 03-17-2013 04:24 PM

also, does anyone know where the trails are around stave?? anyone want to give me a tour? i've ran a couple around there a few years ago, theres one that was really narrow and off camber with lots of tree rubbing. someone told me its called "hamburger hill" or something? mud isn't really my thing, i want to run trails!
