Speaker Question

Hey guys, Not sure where to post this under so please move if needed Mods.

Lately I ve been wanting to get a home theater speaker system, was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit.

long time ago back when matrix came out. I was in this shop back in Asia and I absolutely love the way those speakers sound. it was sooo crisp when the shoot out happened at the building (
) to be exact.

now I m just wondering since its been so long ago.
what sort of system do I need, any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks !

When it comes to audio, the first and most important question is: what kind of a budget are you looking to blow?

Given the same budget, audiophiles strongly prefer a quality stereo system over a multi-channel system, but with stereo only, you (obviously) lose out on multi-channel / positional audio aspect of things. But quality multi-channel systems cost an arm and a leg.

The quality and design of the speaker enclosure is more important than the quality and design of the speaker itself.

Skys the limit when it comes to home theatre. From couple hundred dollar home theatre in the box to full out theatre rooms.

Comes down to your budget is, the size of the room and the layout of the room.

Is it strictly for movies? Or music also? Hi-fi speakers and home theatre speakers are quite different.

JBL speakers are used in most actual theatres. So that might be something you'll want to consider. Just remember its always better to do things right once rather then keep upgrading. I'd start off with a good reciever + front towers first. Then sub, center then rears. If budget allows of course getting everything at once is better.

Its strictly for movies and I m not really looking to spend a whole lot, I was just gonna spend a couple hundred on it.. =S
maybe even used?

as long as it makes pretty decent sound I m satisfied..

the space it will be placed is probably 12 feet by 10 feet.
its not that big.

Ive heard my friends logitech Z-5500 but would it be too weird as its for a computer I think.. lol

for the price the z5500 is awesome for mutiple use,

i have my computer, gaming systems,tv,turntables/mixer all connected to it lol

a couple of hundred is not going to it. You need a min of $500 to $1000 for a good system. The logitech Z-5500 to me is mostly bass and not that great for highs.

you can do it with a couple hundred well a few hundred

you can buy a HTIB from a brand like Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon

there is a lot to read about everything from different receivers to different speakers to subwoofers and amps for the subs etc etc

but under your budget a HTIB would be your best bet

something like this
5.1 NCIX - Buy Computers, Computer Parts, Laptops, World's Leading Discount Computer Store

7.1 http://www.visions.ca/Catalogue/Cate...25&sku=HTS5500

If you wanted to go LESS than that like in the 100-200ish range than anything is just as good tbh pick something that you like based on what you know even if its nothing

or you could go this route

http://onlinestore.avu.ca/mystore/pr...id_product=606 329
http://www.ayreborn.com/products/view/526 249
http://www.ayreborn.com/products/view/555 179
OR this subwoofer on Sale Saturday, tomorrow for $98 http://www.visions.ca/catalogue/cate...rchText=PSW108

thats a budget system that is, well, pretty sweet imo

Best solution if you were to buy a system is to go to a showroom and test it out if you like it go for it

If you really want a good sound.

Knowing your room space and shape of the room, is the first thing.
5.1 or 7.1 ~~~ Huge difference when the movie supports 7.1

For movies, Good surround is important, you will be able to hear where the sound coming from clearly.

If you want decent sound, Stay way from HTIB (Home Theater in the box).
I would save money till I can afford real speakers with decent receiver.

A good receiver with a good sound calibration program is super important.
I would choose Audyssey calibration system over YPAO, or MCACC

Audyssey - Audio Technology | Audyssey

My 7.1 system cost me around 5K, and I love it so much.
If I have a bigger room, I will go even crazier....

For a budget system, you can't do better than an Energy Take 5.1 system paired with a halfway decent receiver. My buddy has the Energy Take 5.1s hooked up to my 8 or 9 year old Marantz SR4500 and it's an awesome home theatre setup. It vastly outperforms my $5000 2 channel setup for movies.

Energy Take 5.1 is a great budget HTIB. Used to play with it all the time when i was working in FS Home Theater Dept. I think there is 2nd edition now. The price goes down to $399 when its on sale.

Mono Price has what people say are the clones for $250. out of stock but will be back mid April. Pair that with a $300 receiver and you should have a nice little system.
For only $239.02 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 5.1 Hi-Fi Home Theater Satellite Speakers & Subwoofer

lowside67 03-17-2013 11:44 AM

You can get them on eBay regularly from reputable sellers, sealed for $325ish including free shipping. We ordered one for my buddy and it worked out great.

Cheers
