Optik/HS50 vs BB50

Does anyone have experience with more so the Telus side of things? I have BB50 and I can sustain 47-49mpbs all the time but it's $75/mo+tax. Telus is offering $45/mo+tax for the first 6 months. I was on chat and they offer it at the address I'm at, but they weren't too helpful in telling me if there is saturation in the area. If you have been on Telus' website, it says 50 is actually 20-50. Shaw was pretty open about saturation issues when I asked them about it at multiple addresses I've been at. Any input would be appreciated.

Only available in certain areas, and it uses pair bonding.

Telus will not give you 50MB if it needs bonding, it is possible on one pair with vdsl2+. I am using Telus 50mb at my place which is GPON *real fiber to the suite* and copper with one pair at my parents place.. If Telus is installed properly you will never see a drop in speed because you are on your on port.. most likely get a higher speed actually. 10mb upload FTW

just ran this a few mins ago

That's sweet! Are they able to provide me with this information prior to install? The CSR and tech person I was chatting with was of almost no help.

TELUS 50MBPS is only available to you if the SAC (Telephone Box: the ugly green colored street boxes) is very near to your house. That is where the internet is added to your phone line 90 percent of the time, due to attenuation only a install/service technician can tell you if you are truly eligible for the service using their test equipment while they are on site.
If you are about 2 blocks away from a SAC you should be eligible. The reason why loop bonding (see below) is not available in bigger concentrated areas is because the amount of (internet) ports are limited per sac box and most are in use.

Loop Bonding (2 copper pairs coming from the SAC box) is only for places where the SAC box is far away from the residence, and will only work in certain situations, and needs an Actiontec V2000 modem. This service is only available in remote areas with less amount of customers because there are ports to spare. One copper pair carries dialtone + internet, the second copper pair carries only internet.

Saturation does not matter with TELUS as each customer is assigned their own port(s). This is different from SHAW as they use a priority based node system.

When you call and ask them they should be able to tell you if its possible.. they have theoretical rates for every address. It is not 100% certain but its a fricken good idea. If you have fiber or etts you forsure can get 50mb and higher once they decide to open it up
