| mechanics help needed for dodge fault codes please!
sup guys! Recently my family's 05 dodge caravan sxt had a CEL come on and I've checked the error code with my OBD2 scanner and had it report back with error code : p0138 - powertrain (o2 sensor circuit high voltage (bank 1 sensor 2).
What does "bank 1" mean?
Any clue on where I can purchase the replacement part for cheap and a DIY? I am hoping this is not a big issue and hopefully I can fix it for my parents before aircare test. Thanks in advance.

there's 2 banks to that engine (its a v6), 3 cylinders on one bank and 3 on the other. bank 1 is the bank that has number 1 cylinder, i can't remember if thats the one closest or farthest from the firewall on a caravan

Odd cylinders are on the firewall size, number 1 being closest to passenger
That's how it is on my dad's caravan anyways

#1 cylinder is almost always at the "front" of the engine (ie. nearest the main crank pulley; "back" is where the transmission attaches) for inline designs, front-left (when
looking at the front) for Vees and other opposing types. This is more reliable than going by "closest to the firewall" since it's the same regardless of how the engine is mounted.
I say "almost always" because I'm sure there are exceptions out there, although I've never seen them. Assume it's the case on 99.9% of vehicles.

sounds like the o2 sensor is failing. either there is a leak or its dead.

On 2005 Dodge Caravan, cylinders 1, 3, 5 are at the rear when looking from radiator. mb is right.
BTW, do you by any chance have rodents living in your engine? Look for nuts and shit. That's what happened on my car. Squirrels or maybe rats were finding their way into the engine compartment. It's warm in there and they made a home. Chewed up the wires to the O2 sensor. Mind you, your scan says high voltage.
I wonder if your van is still covered by federal emissions waranty. If it's mileage and not time, you may be in luck. O2 sensors are not covered, because they are electrical, but the cause may be something else.
Just do a search..........

so that means my bank 1 sensor 2 would be right after the cat correct?

High voltage means no resistance
More likely than not, the o2 itself will go but doesn't hurt to check. Just an advice though, you most likely won't be able to see the o2 before the cat from the hood, best to go under the car

O2 sensor most likely, upstream or downstream not sure.
seems like downstream though, sensor 1 would be upstream (the one on the manifold)
That's how it was on my Infiniti, then again dodge may be different. o2 sensors are like 30 bucks online, 65(?) from NAPA or a local store. shouldn't be too hard to do if that's what you need.
Could be the circuitry as they said above, check the connector and follow the wire around.
