New speakers, headphones won't work until I switch settings

So I recently got some speakers for my computer and it's working well. But occasionally I want to plug in my headphones into the computer for when I'm talking to people on skype, watching series, or flat out blaring porn. But what I noticed is that now that I got speakers, me plugging headphones into my computer won't automatically switch the sound output to my headphones unless I change the settings in whatever player, game, voice communication program manually. Any help here?

i have the exact same problem. i have to manually right click the speaker icon in the systray > playback devices to disable the speakers to get headphones to work while silencing the speakers. then i have to re-enable the speakers to get sound to the speakers instead of the headphone.

i remember my older computer will automatically do the switch when i plug/unplug the headphones in. it is annoying.
