kinda surprised about subway actually being accurate. two things come to mind though:

1. all the shit they took after the jared diet, they pretty much cant afford any false info anymore
2. their calorie stats are for a 6" sandwich, with no vegetables or sauces or cheese...add sauces, cheese and some veggies to your sandwich and it'll taste better but often the calorie count doubles
3. amount of sodium in subway's breads is :sweetjesus:

People try to make dieting too fucking complicated, when it's not. Most of the time people over complicate it for two major reasons, they want to continue eating bullshit, or they don't want to put the work in the gym. I've never understood people who put so much relavance on calories, it's not important in relation to the type of food you are eating. It's shocking that there are people that don't understand such a simple fact.

My simple healthy diet:

Step 1: Buy things that once lived (eggs, meats, plants, etc.)
Step 2: Cook. Avoid refined carbs and sugar.
Step 3: Eat.

Rinse and repeat.

When reading things on the front page of reddit (especially "facts") I always check the comments to why the title is misleading or why the content is wrong.

The Truth Behind Calorie Labels : videos

Quote:

Food calorie counts are based on summing up the calorie values of the ingredients, which are in turn based on FDA tables of calorie values (the so-called "Atwater" tables).
These tables are not simply based on bomb calorimetry; they are based on models of digestive efficiency and calorie absorption. In other words, the bomb calorimetry calorie value of a handful of wheat stalks is going to be much higher than the calorie value from standardized tables, because wheat stalks burn well but do not digest well. The tables take this into account.
I don't know if his tofu sandwich was loaded with whole grains or other indigestible plant matter, but if so, that might account for some of the discrepancy. In fact, generally, bomb calorimetry is a terrible way to measure anything that contains a significant amount of indigestible material, unless you're mainly concerned with the energy value when burning in pure oxygen :-/
What worries me most is that the doctor at the obesity laboratory should have thoroughly understood this, and explained that this was a potential source of discrepancy. The fact that this did not happen, or that it did and the reporter chose not to include this information, is suspicious. How could the doctor be "100%" certain of his results when he knows that the calorie numbers were not obtained via bomb calorimetry?

I think he did, after he said "I expected it to be higher" he went on to say more but it was cut. You can tell from the way he starts to say something before the cut.
TLDR; Video is BS and was likely told the right info but cut it out because the video maker would have had 3 views if he told the truth.

LOL. I used to manage a Subway when the Jared thing was a 'thing'

So many people...women really, would come in "I want that there Jared thang he was on the tv about"

Me:"OK, that's one of these"

Her:"with extra cheese, mayo, mustard, olives salt and pepper"

Me:"did you want me to shit on it too?"

Very few people came through for a dry sandwich to keep the intake of food clean. I remember clear as day the woman that asked for the Jared thing, and extra'd on everything she could. We used "lite" mayo, but I couldn't taste a difference on the lite so just how lite it was was something up for interpretation.

Just go pita pit and get tzatiki no cheese and have a 400 gram pita high in protein (like real chicken breast!)

Grandmaster TSE 04-03-2013 11:42 PM

just gonna continue to be a fatty LOL

Sushi604 04-04-2013 11:02 AM

Another in a long list of reasons why I don't count calories anymore. I just count carbs (under 50-100 overall), high healthy fat intake (that includes saturated fats and cholesterol), medium protein, hopefully no grain/legume and no refined sugar makes me a happy camper.

kevin7352 04-04-2013 11:30 AM

do you still get to eat sushi?

Mike Oxbig 04-04-2013 11:39 AM

girls usually are the ones who count calories and guys count carbs

mr_chin 04-04-2013 12:21 PM

My healthy diet:
