My friends and I usually 3 or 4 of us do the typically Chinese thing. So money never comes up, we don't ever actually split the cost of any bottle nor do we keep track of anything. We all buy bottles on our own time of our own kind whenever and at some point we'll randomly meet up and you just bring it, nothing needs to be said or discussed in advance. Sometimes there will be 2, 3 or even 4 bottles and we'll just drink it. Normally it'll range between $150 - $800 bottles and most certainly if we have more than 1 bottle then we will have one lower end and one higher end and the reason is once you get smashed enough it's sort of pointless drinking the balling stuff because it'll kind of just taste the same as your $150 stuff. |
That's how it should be done! :fuckyea: |

Pretty solid line up. Looks like I need to touch base with Jacky next year. :lol As for Brewhall, just check their IG as they usually announce the bottle prior to. Lately, they've been $400+ bottles. |
John Walker & Sons Celebration Blend This is an extraordinary blend, rich in taste and the finish is endless. It's bottled at 51%, and a rule of thumb with whiskies is that- the higher the alcohol content it's bottled at, the better the alcohol attaches and holds onto the flavours. Regulars are bottled at 40% or 43% for example. Now, this blend has grain whiskeys, so this is not on the Johnnie Walker Green Label malt-blend level. However, this one is exceptional in taste. I am not going into details on the nose or taste, as everyone perceives it differently. -Nose: rich honey, sticky syrup, green apples, red apples -taste: nutmeg, honey, concentrated apple juice I drank it is small small sips, yet the flavours and the development is endless. The flavours literally comes in waves. 30 seconds after swallowing, a development of sour apple juice with sweet nectar appears on the tongue. Do note, I tried it neat and also with a few wee drops of water. It tastes fabulous when consumed neat IMO. |
^ it's been getting some decent reviews! |
I'm running through that whole advent line up again since I didn't pour out the whole contents of each bottle as I wanted to have a second taste around. I'm back at the top of the order at #3 but from what I remember JW&Sons Celebration was one of my faves. Other ones I really enjoyed was Glenmorangie Cake, Macallan Edition 6 and Blantons Gold(I really like bourbon a lot). Def least fav was Alberta Premium Cask Strength. That shit burned like MOFO!!! I did neat and drops of water and it was by far undrinkable for me. It might make a good cocktail though. |
lol! I have APCS as well, if you aren't used to drinking cask strength or high proof I can see it being hard to enjoy. Tips would be to let it sit for 20 minutes before tasting and take small sips to get acclimated. I can definitely see it holding up in a cocktail lol. |
Picked up a bottle of Macallan 12 Sherry Oak and Balvenie 12 doublewood. Enjoying both of those. |
I'm a fan of almost anything Sherry Cask |

Not sure why I’m creating more competition for myself, but BCL is having a draw for the opportunity to purchase some Pappy Van Winkle and other brands here: https://www.bcliquorstores.com/promo...020-pappy/draw You’re supposed to go to a BCL store and scan a barcode, which I did, but thought I’d save some the trip. And likely some cash as well.. I know I ended up stocking up a little bit :lol Good luck RS SeemsGood |
Thanked! Has anyone here had a chance to try any Pappy? Is it that good? Or are more people buying as a collector and potentially re-selling? |
I’ve never tried it. If I have the chance to buy a bottle I’m definitely going to enjoy it. |

Looking to continue to add to my collection. Enjoying Balvenie DW and Macallan 12 sherry oak. Thinking between Aberlour A'bunadh or Balvenie 14. Balvenie 15 is too expensive for me. |
The Abunadh is a sherry bomb and keep in mind its cask strength. Arran Sherry Cask is another good candidiate if you are looking at ABunadh. Look into Glenallachie too, anything from the current line up at BCL is pretty solid. |
So it turns out after hanging out with a buddy last week and trying some very nice scotches, I'm a peat guy. We tried a bunch of different Ardbegs and such, and out of the 8-10 we tried (I got plastered), I liked Uigeadail the most. I'll probably end up grabbing a bottle of it this week, but if I wanted something more mid-level, with that similar smoke, any suggestions? I was thinking Laphroaig 10 year? Would that be a good fit? Keep in mind I don't like Sherry. |
Within a similar price range of Uigedail, see if you can find Glenlivet Nadurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish. If you want to ball out a bit, Balvenie Week of Peat 14 Year. Both should be available through BC Liquor. If you want to take the peat to the extreme end, try Port Charlotte. |

Talisker is also too intense for me. |

ledaig 10 is good if you wanna grab something locally for cheap. |
If you're into smoke, the peatiest one I've ever had is literally called Smokehead (lol) https://www.smokehead.com/ I am not sure who locally carries it, but I remember having it at Shebeen, so it's possible a private store will carry it and you can find it on Google. It's probably not that expensive. |
lol I can't do smoke at all, it's like I'm standing next to a dirty ashtray haha |
