Business Casual dressing trends

Hey guys!

I have an event coming up and was wondering...

For business casual (with tie):

Anybody have tried wearing a waist coat with matching trousers + tie instead of a full unbuttoned suit + trousers + tie?

I've googled and found that a waist coat + matching trousers is a "born again" trend that started just a few years ago.

Any luck? Do you guys prefer or have tried waist coat + tie for business casual?

How does it compare with the regular full suit + tie?

Any experience that you guys have and shared here will be greatly appreciated!

Something like this:

I often wear waist coats/vests for work whether I'm at work functions or when I'm with clients. It's easy to dress up or down depending on the accompanying buttoned shirt and pants and its versatility lends itself to not looking out of place in a group whether you are surrounded in full suits or street casual.
