Hi. I need
-2x 225/45R17 and 245/40R17
-91H or higher
-Very good traction for Vancouver weather which is usually rain.
-Very smooth and silent especially when you steer the wheel 360 degrees.

Should I get GMAX or DWS???

AppleSugary 09-28-2013 02:31 PM

Question: What is the meaning of Z in this phrase??? "225/45ZR17"
Sorry I am a newbie, and I tried searching but i cannot find anything

I know that I need 225/45R17. Can I still use the tire with Z in it? I am buying tires online.

inv4zn 09-28-2013 04:01 PM

Z is speed rating.

i've owned my neogens now for about ..2k km LOL not much but so far this is what i think of it :

noise : shit is too loud, hate it!
on dry its handles well. and same as on wet. so far the only tire i have spun in the rain when im uphill, but maybe i just go better at taking off lol

overall , i prob wouldnt get them again though. Noise is just something that kills it for me

Hi, has anyone had 1) falken sincera sn-828
2) General Altimax RT
3) Yokohama AVID Touring-S

I'm looking to change my all season tires, these 3 tires are in my price range, any response would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Anyone have experience with Yokohama S drives? I have michelin pilot sports but I will be downsizing tires when I get my new wheels, so looking to up the stickiness to make up for the small loss of contact patch. Also looking at dunlop Dirreza zII, Bridgestone potenza re 11a, or falken fk453.
I'm not concerned about tread life, road noise, ride comfort, etc. I just want great handling sticky tires.

If your top priority is performance and grip, the Yokohama S-Drive is not going to be your best bet. It is still a good tire, but not a great tire anymore.

For general street use or street/autox/track mixed use, I would suggest:

1) Michelin Pilot Super Sport
2) Continental ExtremeContact DW

The PSS is a better tire than the DW, but it is also more expensive. If cost is a consideration, you can't beat the DW for grip (but steering feel will suffer a bit because of its soft sidewall; then again, ride quality is excellent with the DW).

Don't get the Z2 or RE-11A unless you plan on autox-ing / tracking your car a lot on those tires.

Hey any luck with those Nitto Motivos? I'm looking for some A/S tires for my '07 G35 coupe and came across these as a possible alternative to Michelin Pilot A/S Sport. I haven't heard much about them so haven't purchased them yet.

Not planning on driving in the snow, just need something for all the rain we get here.

sorry for the late reply

they're great..way better than the ones i replaced them with..but then again, i think pretty much anything would've been better with what i had..

great grip on the rain so far

How's the tread life on the Michelin PSS?

I'm running an aggressive alignment setup and my current set of Dunlop Direzza DZ101's did not hold up after 2 seasons (although that's pretty impressive.)

I don't have any first hand ownership experience on the Michelin PSS, so take it with a grain of salt. But from what I have observed, it seems to be quite a durable tire. From 170-ish hp autox cars to 500+ hp super cars at track days, the tire seems to hold up quite well with even wear patterns and minimal chunking.

With an aggressive alignment, I'd say getting 2 seasons out of a set of tires is a pretty impressive feat.

We're looking for new all season tires and previously had Nokian WRG2's. They were great but tread life wasn't as long as we've liked. The WRG3 have mixed reviews and the WRG+ have poor performance in high speed and rough driving. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance.

What kind of winter tire are you looking for? Studless ice & snow? Performance winter?

I moved to Burns Lake, BC, which is by Prince George. I used to run performance winters on my car (Dunlop Wintersport 3D, and I was very happy with them!) - but since I'm going to somewhere more severe I decided to go with the Hakkapeliitta R2's. The WRG series are an "all-weather" tire and not true winters, so I would not choose them if you were looking for "winter tires" and not something that you can run all-year round. Think of them like the Continental DWS.

Previous experience with winter tires included the original Michelin X-Ice, Blizzak WS50/WS60 and the Dunlop Wintersport 3D's. If going for performance winter I'd go with the Wintersport 4D's which are out now, or the Michelin Xi3. The Blizzaks were good until they wore down half-way.

My 1000KM impression of the R2's is that they're decent on the highway with quite low noise unless the road surface is rough; the handling is a bit squirmy but I haven't broken them in yet. I got them put on and then drove to Burns Lake from Vancouver as I start my move. Only had one section of snow near Cache Creek, and they were stable and fine on the thin layer there.

Sorry, edited, I meant new all-seasons, in time for winter. Thanks for the user review on the winter ones you've tried tho! I've only tried the kumho kw17 for winter a long time ago in Calgary, they were decent for the price.

The three tires I have for my WRX:

BFG Rival (dry autox) - awesome dry performance (really a dedicated autox street tire). Stiff and holds heat really really well... wet is ok, just be careful of standing water.

Pilot Super Sport (wet autox) - best all around tire if you can afford it. Phenomenal grip in wet and dry performance is outstanding. Only gripes, wont hold "autox" heat well and slightly softer sidewall. The best street tire bar none. Excellent ride too.

Kumho 4X (no autox and winter) - great wet, very very good dry.... excellent all season!!

Where do you guys buy tires locally? Any sponsors?

Jeebus4 12-03-2013 11:35 PM

I just purchased a set of General G-Max AS-03s, but I'm starting to get worried about their ability to handle the snow when/if I head up to Whistler or Kelowna. I'm just waiting for them to arrive, and they'll be put on my AWD ride.

roastpuff 12-20-2013 08:42 AM

Update on the Nokian Hakka R2's:
  • Have received a fairly large dump of 6-8" on top of ice from previous melt/freeze cycle - lots of rutted ice on the side roads. This is Burns Lake, BC.
  • Tires do fine unless you carry more speed than what is reasonable for the conditions - especially downhill! Very slippery conditions - packed snow on top of ice - means that braking power is reduced. Especially true because of the ruts upsetting the car.
  • Good directional control, fairly easy recovery if you do decide to swing the rear end out ;-)
  • Starting traction is very good - no problems.

theyre......not for snow/ice.

they might be ok, but why did you buy "performance" tires for winter?

I grew up learning to drive in the snow in Ontario. No need to spend the extra money on snow tires for the 3 days that it does snow here, so I had extra cash for better rims with good tires.
I realized that I probably wont be making it to thw snowy areas this winter as well.Posted via RS Mobile
