Just found out that my neighbour knew the guy who ran the light, he was his hockey coach, and said that he is the nicest guy ever. Taught him to skate and play hockey.

Are you fucking that stupid? Jesus Christ man. Medical conditions often cause car accidents and its been proven. Its not like its the guaranteed reason here, but due to the circumstances ruling it out is foolish.

Saying there is no way, and the chances are slim are two very different things. Which is it?

Have a good read about this fellow.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman
Whitman is best known as the University of Texas shooter where he climbed a tower and for 90 minutes picked off random people with a sniper rifle until he was killed by the police.

This is where it gets interesting.....
Quote:

The autopsy, which had been requested by Whitman himself in his suicide notes, was approved by his father. Dr. Chenar discovered a tumor which he labeled as an Astrocytoma, which he noted as being approximately the size of a pecan. Further in his report, he describes the tumor as having a small amount of necrosis, and concluded that the tumor had no effect upon Whitman's actions the previous day. (However this result was later revised by the Connoly Commission)
Long story short they concluded that,
Quote:

this lesion "conceivably could have contributed to his inability to control his emotions and actions."
We know so little about the brain that it would be ignorant of us to not recognize that this sort of thing happens.

RIP to all in a situation that keeps getting sadder, and sadder.

I want to see how this plays out. It's going to be an interesting case when it hits the courts. This could start new precedents in the justice system.

RIP to all involved. ITs a sad case all around. i live a few blocks from the crash site and i can see how one can have a lapse in judgemt whether it not seeing the light ,glared by the sun or just plain missing it altogether . 176th is pretty much a highway. I see people speed through that road all the time. It's not surprising that something like this had to happen.

I will my visit the site and pay my respects tonight when I go for my walk.

I don't know what caused this accident and it might have been driver error and not a medical condition but that statement as a whole is full of wrong.

I've been in the vehicle with an epileptic with a drivers license and had them go into convulsions at a red light, no way I can be convinced it can't happen because I've witnessed it first hand.

dn53 05-07-2013 02:05 PM

My brother is an epileptic and legally he cannot drive. I don't know how or why you've been in a car with one cause it would be one of the scariest things ever. It doesn't happen frequently but my brother sometimes blanks out with a lifeless gaze and when he snaps out of it he has no idea what just happened till I tell him. Anyway rip

I can think of three of my friends who are epileptic and are legally allowed to drive. I'm sure its a case by case basis. Regardless, this isn't about that. Its about the fact that very clearly, there are instances where medical issues are to blame for accidents.

dinosaur 05-07-2013 03:20 PM

dont feed the troll, guys

A-Dev 05-07-2013 04:58 PM

I think dinamix is missing the point I was trying to prove. I used epilepsy as an example of what happens when someone has a seizure. Yes my brother is legally not allowed to drive.

I was trying to point out that a brain aneurysm which can cause a seizure could easily result in a devastating accident such as this one. Which is exactly what this was, a devastating ACCIDENT.

I think this pretty much sums up the situation.

ASSUMING for a moment, that a brain tumor WASN'T behind the speed involved and that the person was in full control of his faculties when driving that fast... this man was on 32nd Ave, not 176th. The speed limit FOR HIM was 60km. Going 120+ in a 60km/h zone is NOT a "lapse in judgement" no matter how you slice it.

Second, he was westbound in the morning or late morning. The sun would have been high overhead. There would be no "glare".

Third, he drove that route regularly to work - I highly doubt he could have "just missed it". ASSUMING, again, that he was actually in full control of his faculties.

Please don't. There's the chance you may encounter relatives or friends of those involved, and if your comments here are any indication, I'd say you're extremely likely to say something highly offensive to them. FOR THEIR SAKE, just stay the fuck home.
