How many cars in production can beat GTR? Only a handful at easily 3x the price.

How many car in production can smoke a GTR? Honestly, nothing within 10x the price of a GTR.

911 Turbo, however, is all about performance AND class. Would you drive a GTR or a 911 Turbo to a golf club?

The GTR like the LFA are loss leaders. They sell them below the cost to make them because they are supported by huge companies like Nissan and Toyota.

Porsche does not build 911s as pet projects. They have a sports car heritage. When you drive a Porsche on a track, you will see a huge difference to silly little poseur cars like the 350z.

The 911 has a tonne more sex appeal than the GTR. Case closed.

With a 911 in your name, that doesn't sound all that convincing ya know?

:ilied:

Oh come on!

First, anyone that is torn between a 370z and a porsche 911 is trying to pose as someone that can buy a 911, but 'chooses' the 370z for the practicality, and nothing, NOTHING to do with the 50 cents on the dollar purchase price.

The GTR. Great car, for (some of) us that know something about cars. Everyone else? Nice nissan sedan. If you want to be noticed as a pretentious vehicular connoisseur(like Marco) then you choose the 911...hands down.

the difference is, the 911 owner and GT-R owner both know that if the 911 owner wanted a GT-R, they could have had one. but the same can't be said of the GT-R.

:seriously: they're the same fuckin price... $90k(gtr/Carrera)-$170k(spec v/turbo)

westopher 05-05-2013 02:00 PM

Lets talk about the porsche in the porsche thread. I fucking HATE that the top 3 911s (gt3, turbo, turbo s) all don't come with a manual option. It disappointed me with the gt3, but I understood it. Now for it to not even be an option to own a true manual high end 911 is fucking stupid.
Ferdinand is turning in his grave right now.

Yet you'll note the judgement is being made on the badge. Which is, at the end of the day, what people think of first when they spend the big bucks on a car.

It's like they always say on Top Gear: "When the question at a dinner party comes up, and you are forced to say 'I drive a Nissan...'"

BrRsn 05-05-2013 05:43 PM

if nissan had a dick timpo's throat would be all over it

no homo.

In the real world, I don't think people would look down on the GT-R just because of Nissan badge.
The GT-R is serious performance machine, it's not a Sentra or Versa.

Just like how people don't look down on ZR-1 or Viper just because of Chevy and Dodge label.
If someone says "I drive a Viper" how many people would respond "oh it's still a Dodge"

Cars evolve bro...people complain about anything.

Paddle shift, synchro rev match, automatic fuel/air mixture, power brakes, power steering, ABS, traction control, stability control, airbags, AC, etc..

The average non-car enthusiast off the street will have no idea what a GTR is. They will, however, most likely know what a Porsche, Viper or Corvette is. They may not know the difference between a ZR1 and base 'Vette is, but they still know it's a fast "supercar for the masses." Saying you drive a Nissan GTR simply evokes images of sensible family sedans.

why would you compare a GT-R to a carrera? obviously you compare the similar specced cars, like GT-R and turbo

and spec v isn't even for sale here so not a good comparison.. lol

all we have is 'black edition' which is only 113k. can't compare that with $160k turbo

:rukidding:

so NO not the same fuckin price

In regards to the external body/looks:

IMHO, I think Porsche is overdue for a complete redesign.

***Edit***was a little late last night so typed in the wrong model.

As it is, the "new" Turbo looks eerily like a lot of other Porsche models.

Don't get me wrong: the outer shells of the Porsche models look fantastic, but the same overall look has been used for a while now.

If owners are going to pay a lot for a performance car, the performance car should be differentiated from the rest of the other lower-spec Porsches.

Graeme S 05-06-2013 09:04 PM

This is not a GTR/911 thread. Timpo, this is your warning.

Indyjones 05-07-2013 12:51 PM

fyi, canadian pricing has been announced:
$169,200 for the Turbo and $206,600 for the Turbo S.
