Cant wait for this show tonight at the rickshaw. Living with lions and New found glory. I will likely be made fun of for this just as I was 12 years ago when I listened to NFG. Couldn't give less of a fuck though. Pop-punks not dead. The best part is I'm going with 4 of my friends from high school who I always went to shows with, and two of them I haven't seen in 2 years. So fucking stoked.

I have this pop punk conversation all the time with the music industry peeps here. IMO, I found that the pop punk genre was very short lived. Blink, Green Day and Jimmy Eat World were pretty much the trend setters in that new "transition".
Then very shortly after, you had all these guys flooding in claiming to be pop-punk when they were basically pop boybands. Sugarcult, Simple Plan, All-American Rejects, Yellowcard, etc.
Not that genre definition really matters, but all these boybands are all straight up pretty-boys and lack that punk edge which to me, represents that culture.
(Nothing against the boybands, I do like my share of pop music.)
Then very shortly after THAT, all these emo-make-up-black-nails bands started flooding in. My Chem Romance, The Used, From First To Last, etc.
Canadian bands won't make it. Sum 41 and Simple Plan were smart when they charged head-first at the American labels, and their hard work paid off.
The upcoming guys now like Hedley and Mariana's Trench will never get picked up by an American label after being tied down to Canadian labels. Hedley's come close, but got signed and dropped like 5 times by the Americans. They just can't compete with the millions of American bands all doing the exact same thing.

^ Love that song. The 'making of' of that song is pretty fun to watch as well, especially when they're recording the background shenanigans. It is definitely interesting to see how a song with such a twisted plot came to be.
The Fox just announced that I Mother Earth will being playing with Alice In Chains at Fox Fest!
I may need to re-consider not going
Those two bands alone would be worth the price of admission. It's been a dozen years or more since I was at a big festival like that though, my ageing bones may not appreciate it. In fact, I think the last time was Foxfest at Thunderbird, with Metallica, Tea Party, Matt Good, and Suicidal Tendencies. Damn, that was a long time ago...
Saw AiC at the Orpheum when they were touring Black Gives Way To Blue - man, that was an amazing show.

I hear ya...If i buy tickets, I am going to bring a comfy chair and sit in the way back and watch the concert like a grandma lol. Pretty sure I`ll also be complaining about the smell of pot and bitching that these kids don`t understand how awesome AiC and IME are.
I haven't been to a festival-type concert in year either. Was at lollapalooza 95 and most of the Edge Fests in the 90s as well.
Saw IME with they played with Moist and Holly McNarland (sp?) back then as well. I saw them another time as well, but I can't remember when and where. I liked their earlier this before Edwin got all pop-music.
As for AiC....I bleed that band.

You talking my language! Dig and Scenery & Fish were epic summer tunes back in the mid-late 90's for me. I went to some of the Edgefest's as well(96,97,98 maybe). Saw Holly McNarland with The Gandharvas at the Commodore(epic shit!).
Surprisingly, with the many shows I attended in the 90's, I've never seen AiC in concert. Don't think I caught IME either. I thought they were at one of the Edgefest's but I think it was OLP headlining or Tea Party maybe(ugh my memory, lol)
Can't believe this band is over 20 years old (although they are on an indefinite break).
Daniel Johns' vocals and guitar work were always underrated. Saw them twice in concert and to say I was obsessed with these guys when I was in jr high is an understatement, lol!
I've watched this whole concert...pretty fucking awesome.
Silverchair were one of my faves in the 90's. Great sound, great vocals. I don't mind Said The Whale; pretty catchy tune.
Let's talk about William Duvall for a second. Saw the AiC show at FoxFest and man, they rocked my face off. His voice is bang on for their older stuff. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. He has an amazing swagger for a rock artist. I couldn't have been more impressed with a show.
