We all remember what it looks like when you hit a relatively stationary other vehicle at 120k, right?

That highway should be changed to 100km/h limit anyways. 80 is way too slow.... Not that what i'm saying has anything to do with the thread, just an observation.

and its fucking dangerous on that highway, a friend of mine died as a passenger in a car going down that stretch over a decade ago.

That highway has changed a hell of a lot in a decade. I have seen MUCH higher speeds on that highway, long before the olympic upgrades.

I still get chills driving on it to this day. Last year was the first time I drove on it after all that time, and it was only out of necessity.

Just hard sometimes it puts pressure on us towards them. Gives us a bad name. Some like to race and push their car to the limit, others just like to drive without attracting attention and yet the cops get the idea of the bad drivers and blames the innocent.

Marshall Placid 05-07-2013 11:20 PM

The twist and turns on that highway is highly dangerous.

Lucky the group was stopped before anybody got hurt (other cars especially).

Nlkko 05-07-2013 11:33 PM

Some parts on the s2s are pretty dangerous to do high speed in pitch black....

yray 05-08-2013 12:04 AM

140 is quite dangerous for the 2 laned part after furry creek and before Britannia

I was doing 110 ish down the 4 lane part and a jeep cherokee blew past me at 150 :lawl:

it would be hilarious if they took the marine dr exit through the old highway instead while the cops were waiting on hwy 1

StaxBundlez 05-08-2013 12:36 AM

I'm sorry.. but this is not very impressive news..
EDIT: Don't get me wrong.. it's fucking dangerous.. but I've seen minivans whip by me faster than that.

sekin67835 05-08-2013 12:39 AM

It's pretty impressive alright. They should have their cars forfeited too. Dangerous actions.

I had a slight suspicion it was the same guys by the description of the vehicles involved, can anyone else confirm this?

Iceman-19 05-08-2013 02:44 AM

If you live in squamish, you drive that road regularly. I know it like the back of my hand. I could drive the old road with my eyes closed, and knew how hard I could push each corner. Its nothing special doing 140 in sports cars.

A sports car (like a 911) has less of a chance to avoid an accident at 130 km/h than a minivan does at 100 km/h. Less of a chance to brake in time and less chance of making a lane change to avoid something. Sports cars do not defy physics and their capabilities are not that much better than "normal" cars.

This discussion has been brought up numerous times on RS and people still have the false belief that "sports cars" or modern cars somehow have limits that are far beyond cars your parents drove. This is simply not true.

It's also irrelevant. Speed limits aren't set based on how flat and straight the road is or how good your car is - they are based on the ability for motorists to avoid (or minimize) a collision when an event occurs that is unexpected. 140 km/h may seem fine, but what if another car pulls out in front of you? Or a deer crosses the road? Or you come around the corner to find an overturned logging truck?

THIS.

Your little zippy sports car may be able to fly around those curves at top speed... but my loaded work van has to slow to well below the speed limit on some of them. Get someone in a camper, or pulling a fifth wheel... with the hills involved as well, they may only be able to make 40-50km/h in some areas. Add to that all the logging roads and FSRs joining the highway, where trucks are turning on or off the highway on a regular basis...

You come flying around a blind corner and see the back end of Grandpa's Winnebago, guaranteed your little crumple zone on wheels is going to get the worst of ANY contact with that, and you'll be lucky if Gramps even feels it.

The human inability to see through solid objects is another big reason those limits are where they are, and I don't give a fuck how good a driver you THINK you are, you DO NOT have X-ray vision.

You recall wrong. The only 60 kph part is at Lions Bay. All the rest of the Highway is 80 except through Squamish it's 70

edit - forgot that it is 60 at the bottom of the hill through Brittania

The roadblock was at Eagleridge which is before the old hwy exit

Like it's always been said before.

The speed limits here are stupidly low. Yet that is because we already have such a retarded society of drivers here. If we were to raise the speed limits, we'd have hundreds to thousands of additional accidents/year because these retards would go faster and not know how to control their cars.

A small amount suffer, for the "greater good."

So many white knights who have never depressed the accelerator pedal of their horseless carriage past a point deemed legal on this thread :)

I'm talking about horseshoe bay dr exit that connects to marine dr via the roundabouts

jlenko 05-08-2013 09:14 AM

Even if the speed limit on the Sea to Sky was 100 km/h... this group was still speeding.

If you don't respect the laws... lose drivers licence. Pretty simple. Bunch of idiots..
