The government should start confiscating cars of those people who are caught texting while driving.
1) The forfeiture laws are written that allow them to do this.
2) It is a far more serious offence then street racing as evidenced by the number of crashes. When was the last time you heard someone getting killed/injured by a street racer? Street racing is a non-issue.

I'm sorry but I seriously think texting is more dangerous than excessive speeding. Assuming that excessive speeder is looking forward.

So how many accidents have you heard of involving street racing in the last 2 years vs. texting? Texting is a statistically far greater problem and we should treat it seriously by confiscating vehicles of those involved.

Don't take my word for it: Ask ICBC

ICBC | Distracted driving

It's the 3rd highest cause of deaths on the road. Why are we focussing on street racing which is a minor issue in comparison?

^ this is actually true.

It even says on wikipedia and other google sources http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_collision
The number 1 cause of accident/death is drinking and driving, without a doubt.
It's actually 40% cause of death caused by traffic accident.

Followed by other causes
Physical Impairment (poor eyesight, poor hearing, poor physical condition, etc)
Distractions (texting, talking on phone, not looking straight ahead)
Youth (less driving experience)
Old Age (slow response, bad eye sight, etc)
Sleep Deprivation (fatigue)
Drug use (prescription, other drugs)
etc...

Street Racing is believe or not, if you look at by percentage, it's only like 0.2% cause of traffic accident.
I know police is making a huge deal about speed and street racing, and Fast and Furious and all that, however DUI is #1 cause of death. And literally hundreds of times more common.

As strange as it sounds, It's much safer to excessive speed (going 120km/h on 80km/h zone) than DUI or text while obeying the speed limit.
