Exhaust speciality shop

I'm hoping to get a recommendation of a performance shop that can do some exhaust tweaking/modifying for my stainless steel exhaust system for my 300zx.

Here is the problem. The company I bought the exhaust from has poorly designed the flanges for the test pipes and the X pipe. They don't line up properly and the bolt areas don't line up either.

I took my car to a regular non performance shop and they don't have the means to modify any components of my exhaust. I need to get my car towed to a place that can do this.

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about:

In the meantime, I'm in an e-war with the company that sold me the exhaust. They guaranteed me that it will fit with no issue. The worst part is this company specializes in the 300zx and it's their company's branded exhaust. In a bunch of emails back and forth they have accused me and the shop I took it to as being "incompetent" and not being very communicative at all. I've tried multiple times to phone their shop and they never answer or reply to voicemails.

When I mentioned going online with this on forums and telling everyone that their exhaust doesn't fit and possibly going to the BBB they just replied saying that threats aren't going to get me anywhere. The company then said to get the shop to call them and they will guide them thru the install. The shop called and they never answered.

Let me add this, I've been a long time loyal customer of this company purchasing thousands of dollars worth of parts and now they're treating me like crap. I have since launched a claim with the BBB.

Doesn't look too bad of a job. Just needs the flange replaced. Most people here seem to recommend mufflerman in burnaby.

Ok I found a shop I'm taking it to.

Just wanted to hear from others about my issue with this non fitting exhaust and my BBB claim.

I was going to take it to Independant Speed shop but they said I have to wait until Wednesday!
I'll call Speed Syndicate tomorrow. I have to get my car towed wherever it goes because it only has DP and TP! the X pipe and exhaust aren't bolted up.

I would just drive it unless you have incredibly bad luck. I did that once in my old car from Surrey to Richmond nothing from the downpipe onwards.

If you do happen to get pulled over just tell the officer something broke and I am on my way to get it fixed right away.
The money spent on the tow could be put into the job for fixing your car!

Anyways good luck with the fix.

You're in Surrey, Butches Brake and Muffler on KGH is a good shop and does custom work. They did the exhaust on my dads late model race car and years ago I had my RX7 done there complete custom exhaust no issues.

+1 for this -1 of muffler man, their welds look like shit when i looked underneath my car, not to mention the welder was cutting off the wire on the exhaust and didn't bother grinding it off

It doesn't look hard. Break the linking weld, align the exhaust properly, mark it, take it apart and then reweld (+ grind down all the ugly bits)? What surprises me is the tig welds look like they are done without a jig. I would assume if you are a large volume manufacturer, you would have at least that.

I personally find doing it yourself, you will be sure you have it correctly done.

The linkage between the 2 pipes is located at a dumb place. Honestly it looks like your exhaust shop doesn't want to do the extra work either. I assume, they take the job because you assured them it is a bolt on thing.

It doesn't need to be a "performance exhaust / specialty shop" just any shop with a lift and a decent TIG welder will be fine. The question is whether you want to pay for the shop hours (it will take a while). Let say disassemble, break the weld, and test fit takes 2 hours; cut the new metal linkage, welding, grinding etc another 2, disassemble again, test fit and final test another 2.. that's 6 hours of shop time. I got a feeling you had paid the shop a fixed rate to install. Not to mention, breaking the welds means the shop will have to deal with you with the warranty etc.

I think something needs to be clarified in this thread (and hopefully it sticks.)

Muffler Man in Burnaby was recommended by a lot of members waaaay back in the day because they simply "did the job" for a reasonable price and fast. This takes us back to the most basic principles of cars:

Fast + Cheap =/= Reliable
Reliable + Cheap =/= Fast
Fast + Reliable =/= Cheap

Over the 10+ years the old skool RS guys have been here, I don't think anybody took their cars to Muffler Man for "performance exhaust" work. It was normally to weld on a cat for Aircare, or to patch up a muffler. Nothing like mounting HKS or Greddy exhausts and what have you. It's stuff that nobody really cares about. So please, if you want any exhaust work done and you care about your car, take your car and parts to a reputable shop. Muffler Man is the Superstore of exhaust shops.

And yeah, Tig welder @ Muffler Man =

Well technically you don't need a tig to do stainless steal.. a mig with a proper gas combination can do the trick.. However it is all about the setup and care in how to use it.

The reality is tig is really cheap these days with modern electronics.. Eastwood has one for $700, that can do pretty much everything. Even if you have the best equipment if you don't try it out and experiment.. it is still useless. I recommend Eastwood because they do stand behind their tools, even though they are from China and not as flashy as a Miller or Lincoln.

I just dont get what make a "performance" exhaust shop is these days. Unless they have a Faro setup, CNC mandrel bender, that can do 8ft tubes in one go, they are all the same (that is either order from outside or piece things together).

The problem is that they can't do anything at Muffler Man, or rather, don't want to especially if it's outside of their comfort zone. So Tig, Mig, or gas and what have you could not save their lives if they depended on it. Any way, this isn't about Muffler Man. I went off topic on this one.

And the whole "performance exhaust" shop thing...I think the term is just being thrown around loosely to imply a performance shop. If you want, Godwin, weld me up a Dinan replica exhaust for my M3. Thanks.
