Alternatives to Microsoft Outlook

I need to set up one computer at work to have microsoft outlook, so the computer can receive and send emails with the work domain. Also can share calenders.

Currently have microsoft office with no outlook.

Instead of paying for Outlook 2013 Digital Download for $119, are there any alternatives for free?

The computer is Windows 8, with Windows mail. But the email account is using POP3, which windows mail in windows 8 doesn't support.

If you need to connect with calendars on an Exchange server, there is no option, or at least none that I've found to be really effective.

POP3 is also terrible for email - you should find out if the server supports IMAP (if it's an Exchange server, it should).

But either way, if it's an Exchange server and you need to sync shared calendars, you're pretty much stuck with Outlook. Good news is, you might be able to find an older version for cheap.

If you are on exchange server, talk to the exchange service provider. Companies like Intermedia or even smaller local ones offer free outlook with hosted exchange.

best is with outlook. i found others to be shit to work with exchange servers specially with calendar.
If this is a business, just buy microsoft office home and business. i think its less than 300 bucks. its probably the most useful tool anyone will use.
