As far as I know, a bone marrow transplant is a pretty invasive procedure. There also seem to be a lot of risks and down time for the donor.

People who are willing to go through this procedure for a complete stranger are amazing individuals.

Are there any long term risks for the donor?

Before you sign-up you need to take an information test so they make you read a bunch of stuff.

IIRC, the drug they give you to stimulate you stem cells has been used for 10 years so there is no way of knowing FOR SURE if there are long term complications. However, they are confident there are none.

Bone marrow donation on the other hand, does not carry any long term risks.

I received my swabs, just sealed the envelope, sending them back now! I'm actually kind of excited, I wonder if/when I will get the call.
